    Re: tiscali broadband

Might be a fair usage thing; if you download too much they slow you down?

    That's just a guess, though.

    Re: tiscali broadband

Its likely slower in the evening because the amount of users increases. People getting home from work, kid's playing games etc will all slow the network down.

It shouldn't cause your connection to slow down that much though.

    Re: tiscali broadband

Check your mailboxes... have you had any 'Fair usage policy' warning emails? If so i would be interested to know as I am preparing a court case against them. I can tear their FUP to shreds. And their businesss model with it. if I win Tiscali will be in SERIOUS trouble.

I am already taking them to court challenging the validity of their 12-month contract lock-in clause; I believe it is unenforceable. I estimate well over 100,000 Tiscali customers have been caught by this in the past couple of years.

Even if they typically have only been made to pay for a remaining couple of months of a contract, that means that Tiscali have made millions from the contract lock-in.

If I win, or alternatively if I complain to the OFT who then get injunctions against Tiscali, the compensation floodgates will open. It will cost Tiscali millions of pounds in compensation and penalties. I will then be launching a website advising the public on how to get compensation from Tiscali.

There's only one way to deal with companies like Tiscali. Stop them profiting from treating customers badly.

It's not going to make Tiscali happy. Or their shareholders. The Directors are going to have a lot of explaining to do at the next AGM. And I intend to be there too, asking very awkward questions ;)

I am a telecommunications consultant used to dealing with Ofcom and the OFT. I know what I am talking about.

When Tiscali messed with me, they messed with the wrong guy.

    Re: tiscali broadband

Contact Tiscali and tell them that you find the quality of their service unsatisfactory, and why, and that you therefore want to terminate the service. If you can, explain your complaints.

    Tiscali Customer Services
    PO BOX 7206
    Milton Keynes
    MK14 6XG.

A letter is best but they seem to insist on dealing with people by phone instead. 08707 442 922.

Better still, cancel by phone and back it up with the letter.

If you are a Talk package you will have to contact another provider, e.g. BT and arrange for your voice service to be taken over by them.

If you are not in a 12-monnth contract, tthat is all you need to do.

If you are still in a 12 month contract, they may make you pay for a full 12 months. I am challenging the legality of this in the courts. If I win, there will be a way to get your money back.

Also, If Tiscali do not provide a satisfactory service , they are in breach of contract and you are entitled to cancel without being bound by the 12-month clause. However, it may be a good idea to go through their formal complaints procedure to make sure you are on solid ground and give them a chance to fix things.

If you contact Tiscali, they may tell you that you are caught by the FUP, even if you have recieved no warning emails. Check your Tiscali mailbox. If you are under FUP, ask them when the warning emails were sent and ask for copies.

KEEP COPIES OF ALL EMAILS AND LETTERS. Also make a note of what times of day the service deteriorates.

    Re: tiscali broadband

Hi there i am also trying to challenge them about the FUP and getting back some compensation. From January they put me on the FUP which states that checking emails and general browsing of the internet wouldn't be effected. the problem i had was that even during the non-peak hours and especially the peak hours i was constantly getting disconnected from the internet and worse not even being able to connect. during this time though i have been paying them in full for a service i didnt recieve.

Trying to contact them via email was useless. i even emailed them from my tiscali account on numerous occasons but the constant reply was 'tiscali will contact you shortly'. never once did i hear from them. since the start of the FUP i got a job(recent graduate) therefore there wasn't actually any downloading, but when trying to contact tiscali via phone they would fob me off from customer care, to technical support and vice versa. when i did get thru they were telling me i needed to email them about the problem, but when i said i can't even get online to do so a woman suggested i go to an internet cafe - the cheek of that bloodly woman. i finally had enough and have got my mac code yesterday so i am on the look out for a new isp.

i was told to phone the billing department to try to get compensation for the last 4 months of appaling service but the woman kept fobbing me off telling me to email them?!?! then she said only once the service was fully cancelled with a new isp in place could i attempt to get compensation.

can i advise you not to get too sure of yourself because remember that pride comes before a fall and that whoever ex halts himself will be humbled.
i can understand your frustration truly because like you i am a tiscali broadband customer and i am far from happy or satisfied with the service i get for my money.
if you give it a bit of time tiscali will collapse...look what happened to northern rock for example?
it is no different from tiscali...it is the inevitable result of running a business badly.
so try and stay cool and calm....don't let tiscali give yourself a heart attack.

i wish you and tiscali well.

    Re: tiscali broadband

My broadband has also started to slow down in the night, although I'm not a heavy user and am not affected much. Sometimes I even get told this is because my username and password are incorrect

I! believe the problems is because more people have signed up to the cheap Tiscali deals, and the company has not invested in the infrastructure to accommodate them.
