    Thinking of changing supplier

    Hey.

I'm currently using British Gas and Southern Electric as my utility suppliers. I pay a monthly DD of £41 for Gas and £34 for Electric.

I called BG today asking them for help to cut my current DD payments, before going to explore other suppliers. Well, after being on hold for ages and then being cut off!! I'm feeling deflated and unmotivated to get this process of trying to save money on track. I called BG back and they said to go online and go duel fuel and get 10% discount and that there best at the moment on comparison ( but they would say that).

Ive looked at peoples reviews on other suppliers and there is not a single supplier that stands out from the rest, there is a lot of negative about them all.

Ive looked at the comparison and find even that a little confusing. Can someone help me on how to get started am losing the will to live :o(

All I want is someone to tell me how much I will pay per month so I can see if am saving money but I dont think this can be done until they see what kind of useage we have.

    Thanks in advance

Hi -- You need to provide your postcode to find the most competitive suppliers for your area, click the Orange gas & electricity tab at the top of the page, input your postcode and all other details requested to make these suppliers available for your comparison.

When you have found the cheapest (although not always the best or worst service) click to apply on-line for their online deal that you require, paying by monthly diect debit is usually cheaper still.

Service to me doesn't count, as long as the gas comes through the pipes and the electricity along the cables.....I don't care. I manage my account on-line always provide my own accurate readings on time and monitor my bills for accuracy...like a Hawk. !

Always best to go dual fuel, on DD and go on an online tarriff- or in this climate a fixed rate one. I think saving money is coming second place to controlling the monthly spend at the moment, given all the stories about the price increases!

In most areas BG's Click 5 comes up as the best, but if I was you I'd look at the fixed rates before the cheaper internet options as the internet tarriffs will also increase by the same percentage as the regular tarriffs. There is a separate search option for that I believe.

On a personal note (and also on another post) DIE BRITISH GAS, DIE!

Though I will echo previous sentiments, a fixed rate may be a good idea. In the current climate, prices will continue to rise. After all, the energy conpany directors need their six figure bonuses to maintain their lavish lifestyles.

There are plenty of companies out there, but it's worth doing a direct comparison either on here or on U-Switch.

    Apologies for the rant. Rob.

    Re: Thinking of changing supplier

Like Conmankiller, I also do my gas and electricity through the internet. I am with nPower and have a paperless billing system. They send me an email every quarter with the estimated bills, I take my own readings and they amend the bills, and I pay by direct bank transfer - all paperless and eco friendly (ish).

No direct debit problems, no over/under payments, no hassle.

I feel rather strange at being one of the few forum posters who doesn't *** and complain about my provider. Of course I take full responsibility for all my bills and monitor them regularly, as does conmankiller. Kinda makes sense to me. :)

    Re: Thinking of changing supplier

It's not a coincidence that the people who take full responsibility for their energybills, report having little if any problems. The more involved you get, the less trouble you can be caused.

I wouldn't say always best to go dual fuel but more often than not it is. When you do your comparisson look up electricity only, gas only and then dual fuel. See what's best for you.

I'd also agree with the previous posters. Internet propositions may sound tempting with very nice savings. But as has said before these savings last only as long as the prices remains as they are.. soon as they change that saving has pretty much flown out of the window. If is far far better to pay a lesser increase with a capped/fixed product now than a greater increase on a variable priced product later.
