    Think Banking...

Has anyone tried Think Banking?  I'm thinking of using them for a basic bank account.

    Thanks, Lex

    Re: Think Banking...

why would you want to pay a set up fee of £25.00 then a mothly fee of £12.50, and then you don't have total control of the account think money will only put money in that account from what you have left over after your dd's and bills payments have come out, but you do get a maestro card,

but i don't see the point in paying for somthing you can have for free many basic accounts don't offer debit cards but the halifax offer a electron card and the natwest offer a solo card and the yorkshire bank offer a maestro card.

don't pay the set up fee go to one of the banks above and have it for free.

Thanks for that - just didn't want to go through the nonsense of being turned down for an account and wasting time...will have a look at the others.

    Re: Think Banking...

i have a think banking account and to be honest i warning anyone not to take up the account- the customer service is awful- you can never get to speak to anyone , i have been trying to get through now for three days and still havent managed it. they have cancelled my direct debits twice due to an error with there systems, and to top it all they charge you 12.50 a month to mess you about - i am in the process of opening another account - thou im dreading closing my think banking down due to their inability to do any thing correctly

so overall anyone who doesnt like to be messed about - dont get a think banking acount

    Re: Think Banking...

I happen to have a think banking account and i have never had any trouble with the account or the staff. They are so helpful, kind and understanding, also they dont let you have too much money go oout of your account incase you cant afford it.

I have never been in a better financial position for years as i am now. It's NOT true that you don't have full control of your account, because you do! yes they take money from your wages to pay bills, but the money that is left is yours to spend as you wish. And as for the £12.50 fee per month, i'd rather pay that than the charges banks make you pay when a Dd gets returned or you go overdrawn ! I think the average amount is £35 for a return and about £25 for overdrawn?

Suddenly the £12.50 seems like meer pocket change!!

    Re: Think Banking...

Yet again you people are wrong!!!!!!!

How do they treat you like a parent? is it because you cant get your money from your account because you have lost your card?

I'd rather go throught their procedues than just let anyone take MY money !! they do this for a reason and its for YOUR benefit! OMG are you so god damn STUPID!!!!

You obviously are as to have these so called problems, well THEY are much better without you, thou i think they you guys are going you'll be back there in no time lol

    Re: Think Banking...

I have read this post to date, I have read the ‘think banking’ entry on moneysupermarket’s basic banking site, I have read the ‘think banking’ website and couldn’t find who owns ‘think’ but noticed the Newcastle Building Society association, I Googled “think banking reviews”, “think banking forums”, and put the odd derogatory term into Google. All I found of interest (leaving aside ‘the cheaper…’ mentioned below) was a thread on moneysavingexpert. Overall there was nothing bad but a feeling from some that £12:50 per month for the service provided was expensive. For some that may be so, but for the many people who are laid low because they are bad managers of their money and habitually spend too much money without regard to their funds and are therefore obliged to seek out a basic bank account this account is, in my view, a wonderful opportunity to get real help. Here I whole heartedly agree with main thrust of ‘the cheaper the better’ if not his intemperate language and “...Suddenly the £12.50 seems like meer pocket change!!” is a killer remark.

    Re: Think Banking...

Gave them a ring tonight, 10 mins later they gave me a sort code and account number.  I'm a gambler and have a debt management plan.  Its perfect for me.  Think banking don't charge you for a failed direct debit.  My old bank charged me over £500 over the years, so £12.50 is not alot.

    Re: Think Banking...

    Hi there,

I ran up debt on credit cards years back and wanted to go to uni so i decided to set up an account with gregory pennington wich came also with a think banking account. Ive been with them for 2 years + and I find them brilliant.

Yes its a pain if you forget to transfer money from your bills account to your cash card account but now theyve issued a debit card and thats more than other normal banks offer.

Plus u can do everything by text/phone and they are so accomodating i can not stress enough they are so freindly and helpful.

I pay 12.50 a month but i dont care, Its helping me to build my credti rating and so its worth it

    Re: Think Banking...

Hi , My wife and I both have accounts with Think Banking and we both would rather be with them than most any of the other banks out there . I take it all the people on here that are putting this bank down , have not been robbed by the so called high street banks they should be shut down for charging so much in bank charges .

We have been charged over 3 grand over the years by banks and we are saving a fortune by changing to THINK BANKING .

    Re: Think Banking...

    hi

i have a thinking banking account and have done for the last year and a half. and it was the best thing i ever did. yes the charge £12.50 a mth to run your account, so what. it's better then £25 or what ever for a missed dd. i think what everyone is for getting if the banks are told that there charges are wrong and they have to pay them all back the banks have said they gonna charge for bank accounts anyway. but don't put think banking down. at least the call center is in this country and ya sometimes it is a pain to get hold of them. but you don't need tp worry about missing dd etc cause your paying them to do all that for you. so ya £12.50 a mth is worth it.

    Re: Think Banking...

I have just opened an account with think banking and have no fault so far with he staff, who were cortous and the lady I had on the phone explained everything to me, this account appeals to me as i am not the most regimnted when it comes to money and I like the idea of having seperate accounts the only downside is no internet access but getting text messages is a good idea and as someone who banks with halifax getting fed up paying charges will see how it goes.
