Spanish national in The UK buying a British Car.

    Hi,

I hope somebody will be able of helping me with this issue. I think is pretty simple.

I want to buy a 2nd hand car, I hold Spanish therefore European full driving license for 10-11 years and I am in the UK for something like 1-2 months (I used to live in Eire).

I kn,as a matter of fact, I have to pass the MOT and to pay the Car taxes.. the question is basically in regard of the insurances.

The question is in regards of the insurance. In the way my nationality is Spanish and I am fully qualified to live and work in the UK, is there any problem of getting a second hand car bought  in The UK insuranced? what is the way of getting all that done? any particular procedure?

I am looking for something affordable/cheap for start, just in terms of reaching work. Any particular recommendation? Any guideline about insurance prices?

Thanks very much for your help.

    Gonzalo.

I am certain that you will be able to get insurance but whether it is affordable or not is another question. UK insurance is expensive and few companies will quote for a couple of months (it's more normal to have to take out a 12 month policy then pay cancellation charges to end it early).

You are allowed to bring a car from Spain, with suitable insurance, and drive it here for up to 6 months.

    Thanks for the fast answer.

Well, I arrived here 1-2 months ago, it is what I meant, I am settling down here in the UK, then I will apply for annual policies.

I prefer to get a British car, more convenient to have the Stirring wheel on the right hand side of the car.

    Thanks very much.

    Gonzalo.
