    Sky BB Wireless Router

    Hi All,

    First post having just joined!

We recently switched from AOL after many years trouble free to Sky as did the all-in-one (TV/Phone/BB) package. Along with it came the wireless router.

We have two laptops in the house (Toshiba & Dell), both have built in WiFi and never had any problems connecting the AOL wireless router (Netgear) and as I travel a lot I take my laptop everywhere - again no problems connecting.

The problem we have is that we cannot get on the internet with Sky via WiFi, if we connect to the router via the yellow Ethernet cable then no problem. If we try to go wireless then forget it! We have phoned Sky Customer Services several times and never get anywhere, usual story of getting put through to India and then all they seem to read through a preset list which usally ends with them blaming the laptops. I explained that they both worked before and work with other WiFi systems perfectly, they then tried to sell me a Sky WiFi card!!!

    So two questions....

    1) Anyone else had this issue and how did they solve it?

    2) Can my old Netgear router be reconfigured to work with Sky BB?

    Thanks in advance!

    Julian.

    Re: Sky BB Wireless Router

    Julian,

I am with Sky when I am home, and found that I couldn't connect any other router to it other than the one they provided, so don't try that.

As for getting it working, Sky tech support are useless and always blame your computer hardware (they told me 4 different machines were all broken) but you need to change the wireless settings manually for it to use the connection.

Assuming you are using Windows XP (currently most common OS out there) open the network connections, right click the wireless connection and then left click properties. In the "general" tab, there is a scroll box which has different services used by the connection. Highlight the "Internet Protocol TCP/IP" then click properties.

Click the radio button for "use the following IP addresses". The first box will need to show 192.168.0.x (where x is a unique number greater that 1, less than 255 and within the IP address range which can be found on the sky router settings page), the second one should then display 255.255.255.0. Change the last one to 192.168.0.1.

Make sure the "Obtain DNS...." radio button is checked, then click "ok" until everything is done. You might then have a little more success.

    Hope this helps.

Nope. Mine's worked the first time I've tried. Can you elaborate on the problem?

To specifically answer your question - Nope :(

    Hi Indian,

Well basically seem to find the router but refuses to connect to it! Sky tried disabling the security on the router but still no joy. Can connect via the ethernet cable and access internet no problem.

Any specific things you need to know then ask away.

    J.

I know what your problem is the same happened to mine. Sky are useless and didnt help me at all when you try to connect to the wireless router it pre programs the login details in delete these and re type them making sure that they are in capitals. Sounds stupid i know but as soon as i did this mine worked.
