Write to these agencies and give them the contact details of your "friend"!

    Re: Not my debt

I was under the impression that companies are no longer allowed to blacklist a particular property and only an individual could be assessed for credit worthiness?

    Re: Not my debt

Hi --- Contrary to what they have lead you to believe, an address does not get blacklisted by the credit agencies...only the individuals that have or still do reside at the address in question.

If you still believe information held by the agencies is incorrect, you can apply for a copy of your reports and supply a "notice of correction" to have any false information disregarded, if you can show the information held about you was wrong.

    Re: Not my debt

It is NOT permitted for an address to be 'blacklisted' and if this is what you suspect AND can prove, then you need to contact the CAB or a solicitor.

The only thing you can do is to check YOUR credit record against the address and make sure that you have not been listed as a co-debtor or 'linked' person. If there is anything wrong, you can apply to have your record cleared, My anger is that YOU have to pay if this is the case for something that is not your problem.

    Re: Not my debt

Charley, I wasn't implying you were silly. I once moved into a property where the previous tenants had done a runner. For months I received letters from debt agencies for people I didn't know. I wrote to these agencies and told them I didn't know these people, and gave them the details of my local council, landlord and estate agent for them as leads to further pursue. I learnt from calling Wescot that as a matter of routine, these letters get sent three times, which explained why even after I'd called them to say these people had gone, I didn't know them etc, they kept sending me such letters. Finally I wrote them a letter and said I would not entertain any further correspondence of that nature. I never heard from them after that. You don't get your credit rating blighted because of your address.

    Re: Not my debt

I am now aware of that. I wasn't before, As I had intimidating and slightly agressive balifs knocking my flat door, telling me that I may be responsible for the debts, this is why I thought that. I am far from silly just rather too trusting when it comes to my friends. Thank you for all the advice every one it was much appreciated xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
