Is it when you turn left at low speeds?

Hi there, I work at volkswagen as a technician and know the sound your talking about. It is rather annoying but you need to go to your dealership so they can carry out a modification to the steering wheel shroud. Volkswagen do know about the issue and it should be covered under warranty (so long as your car has not exceeded 60k miles and is under 3years old).

    Hope this helps

    Hi George,

This is interesting - this noise for me has caused me to have 2 new steering racks in the space of 6 months! Do you mean the noise when mostly turning left (like a cross between a creaking and scraping noise)??

The car has never felt perfect since...

    Cheers
    Matt

Re: New VW Golf GT TDI

Hi. I know it's a while since you replied to this thread but I'd like some help. I bought an August 2004 Golf 2.0 tdi last week and I have noticed a few noises.....

     1. A vibration from the sunroof and i cannot work out if it's the cover or the glass itself - is this a known issue and is it easy to fix?

    2. There is a whistling noise from the drivers door when i get to 60+........frustrating;

    3. The turbo - should I be able to hear it whining at low speed when i accelerate at low speeds?

I have a 3 month warranty from date of purchase. Are these things easily fixed or should i be prepared for a life of noises!!?

It probably sounds like I a bit over anxious about this stuff but I had my last car for over 5 years (8 year old focus) and never had a noise anywhere!

    Thanks

Oops, that's what happens when you shell out loads of cash for 'premium' build quality...

    Phil,

I think JJ was just being honest, and giving an opinion.

When someome can help with your query, I'm sure they'll post back.

However, your rude and personal remark may prohibit one's enthusiasm to respond!

    RGB,

I understand that he/she may have been giving an opinion but I think that you will agree that it was not helpful but had an unfriendly tone. I would appreciate, as I am sure you would, constructive feed back and not someones glib remarks that serve no purpose. I fail to see the rude comment; and believe a childish remark, on occasion deserves a childish response. I posted the message on this boad in the hope that someone may be able to offer some insight into the questions asked and, as mentioned not to get unhelpful comments back.

Don't be like that Phil, I was just having a pop at the VW brand being perceived as higher quality than others, when you are living proof that this is not necessarily the case. Expressing an opinion isn't childish, in my opinion, throwing toys out the pram (and having a personal dig at somenone) when someone bad mouths the perceived value of your cherished recent purchase (although I wasn't having a go at you), is.

The turbo thing is probably ok, I drive a 2.0 diesel and the idea of the diesel turbo is low down torque. A spinning turbo at low revs is to be expected. The sunroof rattle and door whistling are probably down to the seals but unfortunatley you probably won't get confirmation of this untill they're replaced.

Get back to the garage where the warranty is with and get them to fix these things, or swap it for another Focus. Join me in my playpen when you're done if you like... ;-)

Re: New VW Golf GT TDI

    Hi JJ,

Thanks a million. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I am a bit wound up about the noises (but probably shouldn't be) as I really like the car. I have it booked in for this coming Monday & Tuesday to get it looked at. The sunroof was a difficult one to find as it sounded like it was coming from the dashboard but turned out not to be. Hopefully I will only need this one trip to the garage.

I see where you're coming from, I thought VW would be solid even in a 3 year old car but i guess they are minor things. Other than these things tha car is great and quick! I'd love a go in the new 170bhp one! (should have asked for more for the focus!)

Again appoligies for my comment....... I'll bring the farleys rusks!

    Many thanks

    Phil

    Can I come too?  LOL

Don't be upset Phil.  JJ is really nice, stay around and you'll see this for yourself.  He is very knowledgeable about cars and obviously couldn't resist having a little 'dig' about VW.

Glad you now realise it wasn't personal.  Welcome to the forum.

    Kind regards

No worries mate, it's so hard to get a true vibe off someone's written word.

Hope you get it sorted, let us know how you get on won't you...?
