If my Insurrance policy requires 10 years ncd for full ncd and I have totalled 15 years ncd can I transfer the remaining 5 years ncd to a second policy for another car as a second driver.

    Re: NCD

No - NCD cannot be divided.  The best you can hope for is a company that will provide an introductory discount on the second car.  (These discounts can amount to the equivalent of a few years NCD)

    Re: NCD

Fiamold is correct, NCD cannot be divided. Also, be careful if transfering 6+ years to another insurer at your renewal as some insurers have lower maximums, and when it comes to the following renewal they will only confirm their maximum and not what you originally advised. R&SA's "BP Dial 24" product was a swine for this as their maximum was 4 years and they would only provide evidence of 4 years !! Unfortunately there is no standisation in the industry so the no. years over the maximum will be lost if you move to another insurer that doesn't need such a high number of NCD years entitlement. Check before you buy.

2nd Car policies are in abundance. Speak to your local insurance broker for 2nd Car policies. Most are for Lady drivers as the archaic view is that the wife has been driving on hubbies policy and therefore not earnt their own, but there are more and more companies starting to give the discount to the original policyholder, especially for classic cars or low use cars. Further discussion should be entered into to get the best deal. They are usually only available to the policyholder who earned the ND or their spouse, not to offspring.

PS. I am a broker and used to advise on this subject on a daily basis.

PPS. 2nd Car discounts sometimes only apply to low grouped vehicles or to conviction free drivers, so discuss in depth before you buy.

    Re: NCD

I WOUDLNT WORRY ABOUT GOING TO A COMPANY WITH LOWER MAXIMUM NCD THAN WHAT YOU WENT WITH

THEY WILL CONFIRM THEIR MAXIMUM NCD AT RENEWAL.,BUT THEY WILL HAVE ON FILE WHAT YOU WENT TO THEM WITH SO YOU CAN GET THEM TO SEND A SEPERATE LETTER CONFIRMING 15 YEARS NCD.

THEY CANT REFUSE TO DO THIS

    Re: NCD

Red Army - you're posting in CAPS again.  Thought you said you'd take them off.  TAKE THEM OFF!!! please.

Also, is it me but I have no idea what you're on about above.  I understand the original question by steveh and the responses by Fiamold and Scott Hall but yours has left me totally confused. The question had already been adequately answered anyway.  <awaits strong backlash from RED ARMY>

    Kind regards

    Re: NCD

    Sorry indi...lol

Let me make it simple..il try and space this out as its not as simple to somepeople(not you indi) as i seem to think.

You go to saga from hastings with 7 years ncd,you leave saga at next renewal and they normally send out proof of 4 years or 60% on the renewal notice as they put it.

This doesnt mean you have lost the 7 years you went to saga with as the renewal, this is what Scot Hall seemed to imply.

The the renewal notice is a standard letter which they normally send out with their maximum ncd on.

Saga would have the amount of ncd you went to them with on file,so its just a case of contacting their customer service department and getting them to issue a letter stating you have 7 years ncd.

Thats what hastings do,any ncd the customer comes to us with is kept of the policy file notepad clearly displayed so that if a customer leaves us we can amend our standard ncd proof letter and give customer 9 years instead of 7.
