Joint mortgage but I've just moved here:

I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me. My husband and I recently wed - he has lived in the UK most of his life and has worked here for seven years. I just moved here from Greece and just started working, We want to buy a house but on his income alone we are struggling to find anything. How long do I have to be in the UK to apply for a joint mortgage with my husband? (I have bank statements from Greece if needed).

Do you still have an income? Or a huge bank balance? If not I doubt a joint application would help. You can apply jointly at any time, no residence period neccessary.

Thanks so much for your reply. I have actually just started working here in the UK. I have a reasonable income which will definitely boost our income total when applying for a mortgage, could I apply with my husband jointly even though I have not lived in the UK for 3 years and even though I only started working at this job two months ago?

No reason you can't apply, the lender will decide whether to take your income into account.

Elle, your lenders will take into consideration your circumstances.

It would help your case if you had Unlimited Leave to Remain stamped on your passport.

Elle does not say she is Greek, just that she's moved to UK recently. She certainly writes English like a native.

If your assumption that Elle is not British, even if she is Greek, "Unlimited leave to remain" is irrelevant as EU citizens have the right to live, work, and do many other things in UK without any kind of permission. Endaksi?
