hsbc and their charges upon charges!!
hi,
im wondering if anyone can give me some advice my husband banks with hsbc hes been with them for about 2 years now and has kept his account in order,
then in september he had an accident and had to have an operation and was off work for 6 weeks on SSP £70pw which to be honest we struggled to keep our head above water for this time as my husbands weekly earnings were in excess of £300,
anyway we went overdrawn on a couple of direct debits the bank didnt pay them, they took them out of the account and recalled them the same day and charged me £30 on each one Fair enough! my fault!
but today i have had a letter stating they are taking £125 for an overdraft fee and £3.13 debit interest on the 10th dec for my account between 19th oct - 18th nov ?!!
i was astonished i had already been charged £30 per item,
i rang hsbc and they bacically fobbed me off i asked them why id already paid my charges they were charging me again, but they wernt interested,
i have logged a complaint but i dont see this goiung anywhere with them,
surley they cant charge this amount on top of the £60 ive already paid?
my husband is back at work and money is flowing back into the account, i feel like there just taking the prevebials with this, i bank with barclays and never in a million years have i had this with them,
any advice would be much appriciated
:)

Hsbc should be ashamed of themselves for doing this, they should return the money they have taken , as a goodwill gesture you had been with them for 2 years, kept your account in good order. You were a good customer and deserved better service from the HSBC, when these banks take charges off us, they are allowed to waiver the amount when your account has not gone in the red. And as yours had been alright for 2 years, you should not have been charged. I have incurred bank charges, over the years, with another bank, who have quashed these charges. Also it depends if your talking to somone over the phone, customer services, they can waiver these charges, there and then its up to there descesion, (spelt wrong). You could also try the Financial Ombudsman Services, South Quay Plaza, 183 Marsh Wall LondonE14 9SR. 0845 080 1800 or www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk. They have tried to do a lot for bank customers, by trying to stamp out these excessive, amounts we are forced to pay., by banks like credit card charges, but the banks are not happy with this, and are trying to add more charges some where else on our accounts, like stopping free banking. Hope you get your money back, these banks need to be more humane when people are taken ill due to know fault of there own.

Re: hsbc and their charges upon charges!!
hi chrisy
thanks for your reply,
i did go into my local branch and asked for a list of their charges and they said they didnt have one ( suprise suprise!!) i explained to the lady behind the counter what had happend and she seemed shocked, and told me to bring the letter in to speak with someone but im waiting for an appointment at present, i could even understand the origonal £30 charge but i was informed tecnically the money didnt even leave my account for the direct debits i got a £30 charge for not having the money in my account ( not for tecnically taking me overdrawn as it never officialy left my account) which is steep,
but to be kicked in the teeth with a whopping £125 charge is beyond me, i was never at any point even when opening the account made aware of these " penalty " charges after a charge, im gonna go into the branch and if i get no joy i will follow your advice and give them a call,
thankyou for taking the time to reply,
fish1 :)

Re: hsbc and their charges upon charges!!
Hi fish1
Thankyou for your reply, I think you have a very good case against this bank, this bank does not deserve good customers like yourselves, the way they have treated you is absolutely appaling, and they should pay you compensation for their mistake. A bank is very lucky to have customers in credit today, when Britain is so heavily in debt, they should be doing everything possible to help customers that have kept in credit, you should be rewarded. Good luck fish1.

Re: hsbc and their charges upon charges!!
Hello! I have been a HSBC customer for 7 Years nearly.. And never really had a problem with them apart form the odd £30 charges. I have recently gone overdrawn in my account by £400 :( i was then charged £100 for being overdrawn... I told them i couldnt afford to repay it and asked for an agreement so it would be treated as a loan. But apparently my lending is at maximum which is strange as i was offered a £4000 loan and only took 2.5k. Anyway i have recently found out that they are charging £100 every month!! Any ideas form anyone would be appreciated. Thanks DD
