Good morning all,
I need some help with an insurance claim, sorry for the long post.
I'm insured currently with Barclays home insurance.
3 weeks ago, my Custom built PC died (I am a qualified pc engineer) due to multiple power outages.
I verified the machine as dead (Graphics card dead, power supply dead, and unable to 100% verify the rest of the components).
So I phoned my insurance company and they told me I was covered.
They put me in touch with IVAL for pick-up and repairs, however I wasn't happy with this as IVAL could not sign off to verify the watercooling system was intact before transport.
IVAL asked me to get a report done by PCworld, which I did.
The PCworld technician found the same as myself (graphics card dead, psu dead, unable to verify the rest of the components) and he wrote it as BER.
IVAL would not accept the report (even after verification by the store manager) as the technician had not sent it on headed paper, and it was in a "strange" format.
I was asked to strip the watercooling system so a pick-up could be arranged.
Parcel-line turned up the next day but with an incorrect sized box, and so refused to take the PC.
Barclays apologised and an advisaor promised me that they would be back the next day with a correctly sized box.
Parcel-line turned up with out a box (expecting me to have packaged it) and refused to take the PC.
Barclays again apologised and a Customer Care manager promised they would be back the next day with correct packagining.
Parcel-line again turned up without a box and refused to take the pc!!!
After alot of phone calls, Barclays arranged for EDC to collect and do engineers report.
EDC were very prompt and polite (very impressed with the service compared to IVAL), however the engineers report has said that only the power supply is damaged (even though I'm 100% sure the graphics card is dead, the engineer was unable to get the pc to boot to windows, and there is no way to verify the rest of the components. Even the manufactureres would chuck it out and not bother testing it!!!).
I've phoned Barclays and placed a complaint against the engineers report (as it sounds like he hasn't done half of what he claims. On the report it says "Visually checked the motherboard and components"
Can anyone advise me where to go from here?
Because it's not possible to verify the components of the pc I would like them to simply replace them, or offer cash settlement.
On the original claim, I was only cliaming for components that needed replacing, not windows or case etc. I feel I've been "screwed" because I was trying to be honest and not claim for anything that wasn't needed.
