I purchased a last minute holiday over the phone two weeks ago, for a holiday the same week. When i printed the confirmation email they sent me i noticed they had put travel insurance on. I called them back and said i didn't ask or wasn't even asked if i wanted this and said i did not want it. They told me to email them and they should refund the amount for me and cancel the insurance.

Well i emailed them but due to the lateness was unable to wait for a reply and i was due to fly off the day after. When i got back i had recieved a reply saying as it was so late on they were unable to cancel the insurance and therfore could not refund my money.

Is there any thing i could do about it? i realise the date the insuarance was for has past but if i didn't want it and didn't have time to sort this out before i left ican't see what else i could have done.

    Any suggestions?

    Re: Help

i must assume you paid for hol.by credit card over the phone ? if so then the price quoted should have been the price charged to your credit card. get back to them demand reimbursement, threaten to contact your c.c. company saying they have fraudulently taken more than they quoted, that should do the trick.

    Re: Help

If the company took payment for an insurance without confirming with you that you required cover then you should pursue a full refund from them regardless of the fact that the cover period has now expired.

In the first instance you should ask to speak to a senior member at the travel company to resolve the issue. If they do not immediately offer to refund the premium then ask if their telephone calls are recorded so that they can prove that you agreed to take their insurance cover. Currently agents are not required to record their conversations so they may not have this, if not then ask if they have a sales script/checklist that each call advisor must follow and keep on their files for each booking. If they still cannot conclusively prove that you agreed to purchase their insurance yet still refuse to refund you the insurance premium then you should follow the complaints procedure on the insurance policy.

As long as you can provide evidence that you did contact them prior to the commencement of your trip to request that the policy was cancelled then you should be able to convince the insurance company to force the agent to refund the premium to you.

    Hope this helps.
