Inflation is running at 3% and the governor of the Bank of England, Mervyn King, warned last week that it is likely to stay well above the 2% target for the rest of the year. At the same time the economy is slowing; house prices are falling in many areas and millions of consumers are struggling to make ends meet each month. Has the government and the Bank of England lost control of the economy?
Yes – Definitely. I’ve lost all faith and am really worried that we are on the verge of a full-scale economic recession. The government should have acted sooner. (58.3%)
No – But I am worried about the future as there seems little that the government and Bank of England can do to improve the situation at the moment. (33.3%)
No – Gordon Brown has said he is taking the right actions to deal with the current problems and I believe him. We are going through a tough time but I think we’ll avoid a recession and that inflation will be brought back under control. (8.3%)
