    GAP insurance

I'm in the process of buying a new car and have been offered GAP protection from the garage. I am undecided whether to do it as it is an extra £199 on top of my car purchase and i am suspicious that it is just a money making ploy for the garage! but on the other hand if this protection really does what is states it could be very useful ??????
    Lots of comments please!!

    Re: GAP insurance

    Mmm! difficult one....

This is what happened to me.

Bought new car. Took out gap insurance for 3 years, paid premium in full. (£599) Sold car after 6 months.= waste of money!

Bought another new car! Took gap insurance for 3 years, paid by D/D sold car...stopped the D/D = saved money!

How long is the gap insurance for? What is the cost of the car?

You could always google and see if you can get a better deal outwith the car dealer?

    Just food for thought!

    Re: GAP insurance

    Hi,

Gap insurance can be good value when you consider what you pay annually for your car insurance and what it could potentially be worth when you need it most (write-off).

As for whether you should take the garage's policy or not, you should shop around as this is available elsewhere. Compare the price but equally, if not more importantly, compare the level of cover and any exclusions or terms of a claim.

Also, ensure you get the correct type of policy, depending on whether you pay cash or finance the vehicle...

Keep us informed of your findings...

    JJ
