Fraudulent transactions on my credit card! What happens?

    Hello

I have just received a letter from Barclaycard telling me that they are withdrawing the cash facility on my card because there has been a significant increase on my balance. I phoned them and they stated that the card had been used in Romania and that cash had been withdrawn to. Various items have also been bought and signed for in my name, the chip and pin had not been used.

It was very difficult to understand the lady on the phone as she was from a foreign country (Romania perhaps) and I didn't really understand what is meant to happen? Just recently I made a large purchase in my credit card to an English company and within hours Barclaycard phoned the check that everything was in order. Why on earth did they not stop the transactions in Romania? How on earth can someone obtain my details when I never use the card on the net? What happens with regards to the fraudulent transactions? I know the police don't investigate anything because the bank are recognised as an investigation body and will look into it themselves. Has anyone else had this problem with Barclaycard?

You obviously should not pay for the fraudulent transactions. If they have been recognised as not your responsibility by Barclaycard, you should leave it to them to sort things out.

Coney --- It sounds as though your card may have been "cloned" in the UK with a copy used in Romania, in this case Barclaycard should put a total stop on their CC and issue you with a new card on the same account but with a different 16 digit card number and a new PIN sent seperately.

It may have been double swiped at a retail outlet or petrol station by an unscrupulous individual, when you innocently presented it for payment. Insist that Barclaycard do stop it and issue a new one, then it's their responsibility to sort the problem of the rogue unauthorised payments that have been taken after that.
