Red Army,
With respect, look around you. The posting of links - to assist members understand their query better or point them in the right direction - is not prohibited, per se. Wherever possible, these links should be to independent, governmental or professional bodies only and in the main, they are. We treat each posting of a link on its merits. If we feel it contravenes the Terms of Service, it will be removed.
Firstly, posting links to alternative forums assists no one here to have an answer given to their particular query. If you want these forums to serve as a link to other forums, you'll find the area is shortlived and you'll have to find somewhere else to post.
Secondly, as I have mentioned to you previously, directing people to websites which generate revenue for an individual or another company will be removed. For obvious reasons, I would have thought. Again, if this becomes a place where members can post any link to any company or service they wish to provide, you'll find them shortlived. It doesn't take a genius to work out that a forum only has relevance and impetus if the members contribute useful, sound and accurate advice. This can be done without sending those members elsewhere to find an answer. Links to auction sites or those considered to be revenue generating will be removed, regardless. That's not draconian. It's preventing abuse of a service and an attempt to protect members. If you'd like the forums to turn into a repository for spam, just let me know.
As for posting links to competitors and/or directing members to look them up, I think you're missing the point entirely - and I've mentioned this to you before as well. Moneysupermarket.com provide the forums. They are a service for members to find answers and further advice - from like-minded people - on questions they may have regarding personal finance - across a wide range of issues. As such, I think it's entirely reasonable and fair that in return, we are entitled to expect a certain level of behaviour - particularly when it comes to promoting competitors. We're confident enough in our business to have these forums. I don't really see why they should be abused to advertise competitors. You don't see an advert for Microsoft on an Apple website or vice versa, for example.
These are the reasons why Landshark kindly requested approval before posting. For the record, I'm sure they will be fine to post. However, I wouldn't be doing my job if I didn't cast my eye over them at some point. Landshark knows and understands the problems we have with some links and was kind enough to ask me first. He didn't have to, of course, but was courteous enough to do so.
As for the perceived bias and your persecution, I'm sorry you feel that way. You aren't forced to post in these forums and you are more than aware of the standards expected. If you feel unhappy with those standards, then I'm afraid we can't help you.
Cheers,
Graeme Delap
