    EDF OVER CHARGING AGAIN

    Dear All.

Today i recieved my Electric Bill, After being away from my property for a month and having a Tiny Studio Flat i was horrified to find that EDF had sent me a bill for almost 2 months for 166.00 pound. Well this was defiently in question as EDF as surely overcharged me. I got in contact with them and was told to take 7 days of meter readings so they can check how much i use a week, Which i have done, I am now waiting a reply as i have told them i am not paying until the bill as been corrected.

The bill before that was only 34.00 pound and that was the same lengh of time and i was at home for a full 2 months. Just be careful i would suggest that you take your own metre reading as you will know you are not going to over charged. As customers may be paying for Electric that they have not used. This as happend to a few people.

Yes. You need to look out for readings marked "E" (= estimate) on the bill. It's not unknown for them to estimate for a whole year without a proper reading then give the user a nasty shock with an actual reading. If you phone up with an actual reading, they should send the correct bill within a week or two.

    jt,

This is an issue and one that all customers should be aware of.

A good way to avoid this is to ensure you are providing your supplier with regualr meter readings to ensure your bills are 'actual' and not 'estimated'.

Rather than phoning the supplier, which can be time consuming, customers can apply for an "online" tariff. These tariffs continue to offer the cheapest rates and enable customers to enter their 'actual' meter readings in to their online account. This reading is updated on your account within a few days and means that your payments should be accurate. NOTE: These tariffs are only available to customers willing to pay by Monthly Direct Debit.

    Re: EDF OVER CHARGING AGAIN

Be careful with EDF tho. i have been on their self read and record by email system for 3 years and it can fail to pick up your email reading. This has happened again just this week. i noticed they had not taken their normal £45 DD this month so rang to ask them why not, the guy said that my account was in credit by over £250 (!) and therefore they did not need any money this month. They would review the account and let me have a new DD amount for June. The guy said while you are on the phone do you want to give me a reading? I said sure! Then yesterday i noticed that EDF had taken the £45. i rang to find out why - with a £250 credit and coming into low gas usage season i did not want to carry on spending with them. "Oh" the guy said, "currently you owe us £61 so we have taken the cash". After a lot of back and forth it appears that EDF have not lodged my previous two readings sent to them - hence the alleged credit of £250 plus! when i asked why they had not realised that effectively they had not updated my bills for 9 months - the guy said - well i am afraid our systems are a bit antiquated!! time to swap i think.
