Money supermarket have obviously been very helpful, saving this family money on their outgoings. My only comment is that when you switch from one provider to another in mid-contract, or before a policy expires, you almost always incur cancellation fees or charges and these need to be factored into the calculations.

A very good article but switching providers isn't always the answer. As an employee of Halifax we recommend people review their accounts on a regular basis to make sure it is fit for purpose. This family are on the wrong type of account if their current account is only earning 0.1%, we are currently offering an account of 6.17% aer on balances up to £2,500 if funded with £1000 per calender month (as seen on the adverts with the surfers!) and the rate is ongoing.
