Current Account with extremely bad credit history

Can anyone recommend which bank I can open a current account with, preferably with a debit card of some sort. I have an extremely bad credit history. I've already been turned down by Smile and Norwich & Peterborough. I applied for a basic account with the Cooperative over a week ago and they said they could not confirm and would need to get back to me - I still haven't heard back from them and am starting to get anxious.

Any recommendations would be most appreciated....

Wow, amazing. Just completed an online application about 30 mins ago and have just received an email confirming that my application has been successful - no overdraft though, which I'm not bothered about.

Thanks for the advice. I'll update with details once confirmation comes through the post.

Visa debit card and cheque book came through the post this weekend. Account also comes with a savings account.

Thanks for the advice, there is light at the end of the tunnel.
