Credit cards, check rating before applying

Good job i didn't listen to your pre-check credit rating before applying for a credit card, on your evaluation my credit rating apprenlty needed inprovment, therefore the list of credit cards you recommened i apply for were all credit inproving cards, with rates like 39.9% - 29.9%. All these cards had no promotinal offer.

If i did listen to you, i would be stuck paying the rates as stated above making my money situtation very difficult, lucky i ignored your advise and now have a credit card with a twelve month intrest free period and with a rate of 12.9%.

I thought this site was to try to save you money. I beg the question are you making more money your selfs, from these more expensive cards ?????? People be aware !

    Regards

Rich 24, you should be able to assess your own credit report, not relying on a recommendation from a website. Keep your finances in order and you'll know your be able to get a good credit card with great offers.

    Check yourself!

Re: Credit cards, check rating before applying

    Hi rich24,

Many customers find the Smart Search tool very useful as it directs them to the products most suited to their needs and circumstances. It allows you to search for suitable products without leaving a footprint on your credit file. After all, there is little point in applying for a credit card which you are likely to be rejected for and which could subsequently harm your credit rating.

We do emphasise several times at various stages in the ‘Smart Search’ process that it is only an indication of likely credit worthiness and not a definitive recommendation or guaranteed acceptance of your application for credit. That, of course, is entirely down to the company you apply to and this is when a 'footprint' is left on your credit file.

At the moment, obtaining credit - through a card or a loan - is increasingly difficult for many people. The Smart Search tool in no way recommends the quality of a product or whether it is absolutely right for you. What it does do is help by showing appropriate products for which you are likely to be accepted and the rates you might be expected to pay.

The final decision, as always, lies with the customer. It's great that you found a better deal - let's hope everyone can do that. Our aim is to help you to find the best deals which are most suitable for your circumstances. The option to compare the market and see at-a-glance, the products most suitable to your needs is surely a good thing? Particularly when that search can be done without leaving a footprint on your credit file.

You can view more information on how the Smart Search tool works by clicking here.

    I hope that helps.

    Cheers,
