    credit cards and dd payments

just wondering if anyone can give me any advice. basically i have a barclaycard that i set up a direct debit for over 6 months ago now to collect the minimum repayments every month. every month the payments have been coming out fine. i know this was maybe a bit silly of me but i didnt really check my statements because as i say the payments were coming out every month and i thought everything was ok. now i have checked my statement and seen that i went over my limit a couple of months ago because of an interest charge and the have added charge after charge for being over my limit. i would have thought that the first month i went over my limit they would have taken that amount as the minimum repayment surely bringing me back into my credit limit?? i just wondered whether i would have any grounds on which to challenge them about these charges???

Probably not, how many overlimit charges have you had?

The minimum payment is usually a fixed percentage of the balance, so wouldnt necessarily be enough to bring the balance back below the limit.

ive had a few over these past couple of months. right i understand what you mean about the minimum repayment now. i just had it in my head that if they were taking the minimum repayment then you couldnt go over your limit. i suppose i will just have to pay up, put it down to experience and start checking my statements when they come in!!!

As fas as I understood, the interest rate of your debit card has gone up and therefore the charges for your overlimit use of the card have increased. First, call the company and try to clarify what the current rate is and how much do they charge each time? And from now never quit the control on your debit card to be always aware of your current financial status.
