    Cheap Heating Cover

I am looking through the options for heating cover and not sure which one to get, does anyone know the difference between the complete central heating cover and the boiler and controls only. Is there any risks in just getting controls only heating cover?

I am with British Gas at the moment for my central heating cover however from looking on this site there are companies offering the products for half the price of British Gas. Does this mean that British Gas are ripping me off? They said that they would come and give me a saftey inspection but have not been able to get anyone to come yet!

Actually from reading back what I'm actually typing, i've convinced myself to switch companies!!

     ;-)

    Re: Cheap Heating Cover

Boiler and controls cover does not cover cylinder, pump, pipes or radiators.

Funnily enough I have recently returned to British Gas for my rental property. I was previously with Adminicle, administered by Homeserve. Adminicle refused to come out last month because the heating was only partially not working. They also were year by year reducing the parts they covered. I only noticed after paying the last premium that they were no longer covering the pump.

My view for my home heating, is that I think British Gas will come out quicker if I am having to pay for their attendance, than if they can take as long as they want to turn up under contract. Perhaps a reasonable compromise may be to pay them a reduced monthly amount, but pay £50 per callout.

    Re: Cheap Heating Cover

With companies such as homeserve, direct line, prudential etc the call-out fee is usually the same regardless of whether it comes from the premium you've paid or if you're paying it at the time of emergency so this shouldn't really make a difference to the speed of the engineers attending.

The PP is right in saying that boiler and controls won't cover pipework etc. The other thing you have to keep an eye on is in your policy documents there will be a small quote on what they class as an emergency ('Emergency Definition').

    For example:

    An emergency is
    - when you are left without heating or hot water
    - when you are left without lighting or electricity
    - if the house is uninhabitable

This is taken literally, if you have no heating from one radiator then it's not covered. You're only covered if you entire house, or under some circumstances, a floor of the house (upstairs/downstairs) is without heating or hot water.
Same goes for lighting, if your living room light has blown it's not an 'emergency' unless the entire house is without lighting.

Hope this helps in some way. - I personally don't pay for any cover because I think it's alot of rubbish most of the time. Alot of bank's offer it with your current accounts which you may want to look into.

Check these, very fair, xxxxxxxxxxx, in lancs and have a website, don't cover nationwide though.

Check this offer, family gas care, have a website, very fair, cover everything, but only cover lancs and a bit more.
