Breakdown cover - Good customer service
Hey,
I'm looking into applying for breakdown cover, moneysupermarket gave First Call as being my best value for money option. I was just wondering, having never heard of them before if they offer a reliable service and if anybody had comments on good/bad breakdown cover?
Any comments much appreciated

Re: Breakdown cover - Good customer service
I was discussing who was best value for money at work, and quietly smiling to myself that I thought I had seen the best deal. Then my smile was wiped off because someone else said, "Last time I broke down, I joined the AA on the spot and they fixed the problem there and then."
But surely you paid more by doing that, I suggested.
"Not really, " came the response, "After all it was the 1st breakdown in 5 years."
This got me thinking. I can't remember the last time I needed to call a breakdown service out. So, WHAT AM I PAYING up front fees for?
Maybe the best deal, IS no deal !

Re: Breakdown cover - Good customer service
I dont pay for breakdown cover but then again if anything went wrong I would sort it out myself. For someone like my father or my mother its perfect, you dont really want 60 year old's walking around trying to find a garage if its freezeing outside.

Re: Breakdown cover - Good customer service
DON`T DO IT!!!!!
AutoAid is the one you want it covers ALL services ie: breakdown (even at home) relay to where you want to go (not just the nearest garage or home destination whichever is the nearest) pays road tolls etc all for only £32 per year YES ONLY £32 per year I have been with them for 5 years and used them on 3 occasions one was when I left my side-lights on and drained the battery so it wouldn`t start outside my house at 5am, another was when my clutch cable broke 85 miles from home they relayed me to my local garage and last of all was a family hol. to cornwall they relayed us 250 miles to our campsite from where we got the local garage to repair the gearbox.
TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE NO!!!
They don`t have thousands of vehicles to
BUY TAX INSURE REPAIR MAINTAIN MOT DRIVERS 24/7 TO PAY ETC
They are a well respected major insurance company with a limited 24/7 team to assign to you a local breakdown service which they only pay for the time spent with you, they do not have a website but I can give you their details if you require them

Re: Breakdown cover - Good customer service
i've just signed up to first call for the second year running. i had one breadown call out at home and they came and took my car to my choice of garage with no problems. would recommend as very reasonable in price. tip- it is actually cheaper to renew through supermarket.com than direct through them via their renewal notice.

Re: Breakdown cover - Good customer service
for sheer technical knowledge RAC are hard to beat. I have some diy know-how (I've restored 2 classic cars and built 1 car from a kit) and when the missus bought a nearly new car she got free RAC cover scoffed . That changed when the guy came out to fix the ECM unit (black box I know nothing about) Quick polite, neat work with a broad technical knowledge.
if you save 20 pound a year with another provider it may come back to haunt you

Re: Breakdown cover - Good customer service
I've been with RAC for 4 years now and had to call them out a few times. Admittedly you can get cheaper cover but I have found them to be extremely helpful on all occasions. The customer service is 2nd to none and their guys have a good technical knowledge.
