Nationwide give ½% cash back. Reward points are hard to value/compare. The best deals invariably come with paying cash and, where appropriate, asking for a discount or something extra.

    Re: Best Reward Card

From our point of view, there is only one credit card suitable... (We've tried most of them) the card is the SHELL citi Mastercard. .. OK it may not suit everyone, I understand that... However for more years than I care to remember my wife and I have always paid off the total monthly spend every month.. The thought of paying the card provider interest fees, fills us with horror.. No Thanks.

Over the years I have learned from the trade I have been associated with that the general opinion on diesel fuel is that BP and Shell are the best quality diesel fuels around... Again we are fortunate in living near a couple of SHELL filling stations which I have used for years.... The admin on line with the card is first class. The rewards are 3% cashback on all SHELL fuel and 1% cashback on all other purchases. As we run 2 diesel cars (plus my daughters fill up when she comes over) we cannot beat it... If anyone can I'd be pleased to hear about it... We recently kicked Morgan Stanley card into touch. They changed their cashback to payback to quantities of £15.00... Even then you had to wait until your cashback reached the £15.00 mark and then ring in for your cheque or credit.... No Thanks..The SHELL card payback is off invoice each month, all clearly indicated and is certainly worth having if you do a fair mileage......All very tidy and easy to follow...

It sounds good but it wouldn't suit me. The last time I dealt with Shell I got a pint of water in the petrol tank that took my car off the road for two months. That was ten years ago and I haven't had anything to do with Shell since, and I have no intention of doing anything with them in the future. I believe some of the supermarkets give respectable deals on fuel if you use their cards and I agree with what you say about BP though.

I personally prefer EGG MONEY card for it's 1% cashback (more on certain online offers) and it's general unique features.

    Hi

Take a look at moneysupermarket.com's recent Ask The Expert video on this subject

Volcane:I personally prefer EGG MONEY card for it's 1% cashback (more on certain online offers) and it's general unique features.

Not any longer, it isn't... I came to the site to find the best cashback card, and according to the comparison pages, there's still a 1% cashback. But on checking Egg's site, it's no longer offered - although there are some cashbacks if you purchase from selected associate suppliers through Egg's site.

As an additional irritation, I e-mailed Moneysupermarket.com to point out the error, for the benefit of anyone else looking, and was astonished to be told (in an e-mail from Lesley Fuller in their Customer Services):

We have checked the card in live and do not see anywhere that displays 1% Cashback. The card does not even appear in our Cashback listings. I’ve checked all advert placements and there is no mention of Cashback on the adverts.

I checked again on this site and - again! - found 1% cashback being attributed to the Egg card in their listings, as well as in the detailed information page for those cards, so I've e-mailed screenshots to Moneysupermarket.com to prove the point and asked them what they are playing at... maybe it was an office party today and they are having problems reading the small print on the site!

The mystery is solved... I was puzzled about why Volcane had called the Egg credit card "Egg Money", and now all is clear... Egg's Visa card is called "Egg Card", and their MasterCard is called "Egg Money"... if that's not confusing, I don't know what is... I'm sure a clever marketing droid from Egg could no doubt explain it away.

And, of course, there still is a 1% cashback on Egg Money... but as I've now applied directly through the Egg site, sadly Moneysupermarket.com won't get the bounty for introducing a new card account holder.

    Re: Best Reward Card

Strange you guys don't use the cashback search on this site..........I've got an American Express, 5% for 3months then file it for 9 months to get the repayment, I followed it with Capital One, 4% for 3 months then filed it as before, now I'm using a Barclaycard 4% for 3 months no need to file this one they payback each month so I'll cancel it. In between I use my Egg Money at 1% or the remainder of Capital One also 1%........It won't be long before I can start the cycle again..............Rate Tarts rule OK!!

Oh, don't forget your Nectar card for a points bonus....
