I have just had some great news that my wife is pregnant, roughly about 6-8 weeks, not sure until the docs can confirm.

We however have been told we can still fly on Holiday on the 2nd of June. With regards to this, what is the best method of attaining travel insurance with cover for this situation, is it deemed to be like a pre-existing medical condition. DO we need to inform our potential insurance cover company?

Also, who might be able to provide us with the best cover?

Firstly congratulations!

Secondly, I assume you have checked with your airline that they will still take your wife, generally this doesn't become a problem til you reach 25 weeks or there abouts, so you should still be fine here.

Finally most travel insurers will provide cover up til again 25-28 weeks into pregnancy, however this will count as a pre-existing condition, if you have a travel insurance policy already then I would make them aware of this straight away if not then I would take cover out as soon as possible.

Most insurers will be able to provide cover and at this stage in her pregnancy there would be little or if any increase to the policy so my advice would be to find the policy that best suits your needs, dependant upon where your going I would ensure you have a good level of both cancellation and medical cover, and if you are travelling in Europe make sure she has a EHIC card which will see you get treatment immediately if you need a doctor and will in some cases waive any excess on your insurance for any medical claims.
