£ 277.00 cancellation charge from BT
Hi Can someone help me please??? I have Joined BT option 1 for £10.50 per month because I was asked by Virging media that in order to apply for a bundle I needed a BT line. I was never made aware from BT sales of any cancellation charges, but what is crazy is that I have never requested to cancel the service I want carry on paying the 10.50 per month and paying also Virgin for the Bundle. This is very unfair, do I have any rights to appeal against this?? Please please let me know what to do??

Re: £ 277.00 cancellation charge from BT
Sorry, a little confused here. What exactly did you sign up for from BT. if it was just a line, then you are cancelling nothing so there should be no charge. However, if you got a package that included broadband, then this is the cost of buying out the remainder of the contract and this is normal practice. There is nothing wrong with having the BT line and then having the VM package over the top of it, I think that somewhere in the conversations, someone has made a mistake and this is the result. SHARK!

Re: £ 277.00 cancellation charge from BT
Hi Landshark, Thank you for your reply, I am sorry it is a bit confiused, immagine how i was confused when UI found out that they wanted £277.00 from me. I joined back BT from a previous provided only for the line rental so I asked for Option 1, the sales proposed me to get an offer as I was rejoining BT, of Option 2 at same price of Option1. I received the confirmation of the contract starting on the 08.08.2007 saying that the contract was for 18 months and the offer was only for 12 months and that I had 7 days to cancel. On the 13.08.07 I called to say that I was not made aware of this difference and that I wnated the Option 1 for the 18 months, the adviser kindly downgraded it and also refunded to me £ 4.50 for some hidden charges. I have joined Virgin media to bundle2 adsl, so I thought that this was the reason why they wanted to charge me. But listen the email I have received today from BT (India) says that the cherges has applied because I have cancelle the Option 2 to get Optio 1. I hope I am dreaming this cannot happen in the 2007!!!!! This is extortion!!! Hope this explain better!! Please if you have any adviceto gime me I will appreaciated. I would like to take them in court but I do not know if I can. Thanks Ago

Re: £ 277.00 cancellation charge from BT
Hi I too last week have received an extortionate cancellation charge from BT which I'm extremely not happy with and will be writing a letter to them to complain. Story is when I moved in to my house the phone line was disconnected and a year later I decided to get broadband in, after searching the internet for ages I decided to go with a provider which would be cheap and would incorporate my line rental and broadband charge, after a few phone calls about how I get my line connected and switched on to my bb provider i was informed that i would have phone BT and take out line rental with them then my bb provider would simply take over the line rental and all would be well. I explained to the operator at BT that this was my plan and she in now way implied that I would be getting an extortionate cancellation fee of £245.28 as well as insisting that I add 2.50 onto my line rental for calls which I may make during the time till take over - she was rather pushy. Apparently connecting with BT was my only option to getting my line connected for a telephone number for my new provider, had BTs broadband been a suitable price - as I find this awful expensive compared to what I've got, I would have been happy to stay with them. I find it ridiculous that I was a) being forced to take out line rental for the first few months with BT until my BB provider could take it over b) that I was being pushed into taking on extra costs to cover calls which I made clear to the operator I would not be making and c) that I have now been faced with a £245.28 cancellation fee which I was made unaware of. I will be writing a letter to BT to complain, not sure where this will get me, any advice would be grateful.

Re: £ 277.00 cancellation charge from BT
Hi you say you signed up for an eighteen month Option 1 contract but BT's website says twelve months. So that's either 12 x £10.50 or 18 x £10.50. Did you pay a connection fee of £124.99. If so should you have paid it or was it a mistake? I cannot get to your figure of £277. Moneyclaim charges a fee/s.

Re: £ 277.00 cancellation charge from BT
im not sure what the problem is here you are being charged line rental by BT and Virgin but for some reason you blame BT! You asked for a phone line they installed it - you are therefore in breach of contract by cancelling it and they are entitled to charge It seems you had bad advice from Virgin - why anyone would take their services is a mystery to me, they are terrible!!!

Re: £ 277.00 cancellation charge from BT
Four students can not fathom out between them the best deal. And they claim admission standards are not slipping.
What is is that is confusing? A new phoneline with BT costs £125 to install. This can be paid up front or in four quarterly payments. The minimum contract is for twelve months. If you do not want to pay BT for the phoneline, you need to break the contract. This costs £70 if you want to do it on day one. If you break it after six or seven months, it costs you only the balance of the year where that is less than £70.
If you want it explained in detail, read the information on BT's web site.

The web address is probably too long for them - it is, after all, two letters between the 'www' and the '.com' :-) SHARK!

Some people may be kind, caring decent sorts but not good at reading t&cs. Some people may be smart and unsympathetic or sympathetic as the mood takes them and indeed save little old ladies from bad cashback deals by biting the network even though they have no legal interest when thee reseller doth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: £ 277.00 cancellation charge from BT
This is a typical BT ' scam '. I asked my line supplier for a new number for a pending house move. They quoted £108.00 and when I protested they said it was a BT charge and suggested I deal with BT direct to avoid the cost. I applied direct to BT. To avoid the charge I have been required to return to BT !!! No wonder all their vans have a legend painted on them stating that thousands/hundreds ? return to BT every month. THEY DON'T HAVE ANY OPTION IF THEY WANT TO AVOID THESE ASTRONOMICAL CHARGES. I am still waiting for the new number and their telephone line is one of their own irritating menu systems which does not get answered. Spent 21 minutes 10 seconds the other day trying to contact them. Gave up. They also tried to sell me one of their ' Options ' - needless to say the dearest which is 12 months " free " something or other then 6 months at £3.45 per month for calls only - even if I don't make any ! Told them I only wanted the basic line rental and pay call charges as used. This is in order to continue with my current supplier's cheaper charges and I am waiting to see what they have connected me to.- if it is not what I asked for they will be hearing from me. I have also had to agree to a direct debit to my current account to avoid the other disgraceful charge of £1.50 per month extra on the rental if it is not paid this way. Tried to do a direct debit to my credit card months ago but found they only deal with 3 cards, of which mine was not one ! This is why they lost me as a customer. They will lose me again as soon as it is possible. Time they were reminded they are no longer a monopoly. Equally, they are swallowing up all the small, good ISP's which needs looking in to.

drumster - Glad to see your as useful as ever. I take it you are as incapable of noting 'humour' as you are of other things. I had hoped that your initial rudeness and plethora of ramblings had taken on a more humourous and conciliatory note but I was merely hoping ... SHARK!

Re: £ 277.00 cancellation charge from BT
B. C. Rayson - where's the scam? Are you suggesting that the line-rental for those who have had the one line for years should be increased so that you can receive a free connection? Why? If you are happy with your new provider and stay with them for a while you'd be happy with a surcharge? I do not know any ISP or line provider that does not charge more if you do not use a direct debit. BT has one of the most inexpensive surcharges for not using this option. They are disgraceful charges but they are not unique to BT.

Re: £ 277.00 cancellation charge from BT
Dear Landshark "your initial rudeness and plethora of ramblings" - perhaps you would be kind enough to give me three examples out of the 'plethora' and do try and remember you used the word 'initial'. I fail to see how cyber flirting with shiverkitten at another member's expense is 'humour'. Both you and shiverkitten veer from sound postings to unsound postings and your mood swings cover a similar range. Perhaps a cyber coffee in cyber Caffe Nero? If you reply I would value you putting your brain into gear before putting 'pen to paper'. Thank you.
