zizzy --- Just put the words, " home emergency cover " into Google, there are numerous either standalone companies to take this cover with, or insurance companies that include it as an add on, to your home insurance policy.

    Hi Zizzy!

For the cover you are looking for, I used my broker Swinton for this type of policy. Their policy is very good as it covers work and call out charges up to £750. It covers everything you have mentioned above. The cost is £69 a year.

    Hi Zizzy,

Unless you know that the pipework is dodgy, ie there is a history ground work fractures  in the area or you live in an old house, I always reckon that  that this type of insurance is a bit of a con. I'm all for having central heating insurance that covers the rads and central heating pipework with an annual inspection to ensure that you are not goung to be killed by carbon monoxide. but the rest is a bit dubious.

If you are on your own and unable to tackle  small problems like washers, an ballcocks then i spose it may be worth it. But for the main part I'd be inclined to save the money in a high interest rainy day pot an spend it when the problem actually happens!!

Avoid Homeserve at all costs !I paid them for cover for several years, and felt relieved when I had a leak from the hot water cylinder on New Years Eve.I checked my documents - found a leaflet that actually stated "replace leaking hot water cylinder", and rang. The plumber came, drained the water tanks, tied up the ball valve in the cold water tank, and said "that's it, you'll have a right job finding a plumber on New Years Eve".Apparently, the wording in the small print had been changed to "isolate leaking hot water cylinder".I pleaded, begged, threatened etc etc. This company are the most uncaring I have ever come across. We had their plumber in our house, a cylinder was available less than a mile away, but he wasn't allowed to fit it, even if we paid him and argued about it later. We had no hot water for several days, and had to pay rip off prices to a cowboy plumber to fit a new cylinder.I went through Homeserve's lengthy complains procedure, then the insurance ombudsman, and got nowhere. I suggest you put some money in a separate bank account every month to pay for any emergencies.

Under no condition deal with Homeserve!!!! Paid £215 up front by direct debit to fix boiler set price. They alledgely pay up to £500 labour parts etc.Rude plumber came out and i later found out they wanted an excess of £475 on top of the £215.I asked for price breakdown which is call out £110,then £47 an hour labour costs. This leaves £58 of the £215 for parts this will leave practically no chance of buying parts as for example they priced a small plastic timer control at £67 i found this part on various merchant site delivered for £10 to £15.It has now been more than 2 weeks of constant phoning being put on hold cutoffs and explaining my situation to about 20 different operators call backs which simply dont happen have sat through xmas holidays with no hot water or heating and freezing conditions but n one seems interested in the slightest claim it is taking over two weeks to get parts. They have now told me today that they cant fix my boiler after waiting two weeks!!.They have lied ripped me off and totally wasted my time and money.I have sent various emails and followed their complaints procedure but they have not even replied to them.THEY ARE AN ABSOLUTE DISCRACEFUL UNCARING INCOMPITANT COMPANY DO NOT DEAL WITH THEM.
