    Non UK resident travel insurance

Hi, i am a japanese female, currently in the UK, travelling to India with my English Boyfriend for 5 months, starting next week. Most of the sites i have been to only offer travel insurance to Uk residents, or charge at least twice as much if you are not. I have been in England since January 4th, and am looking for budget backpackers insurance, so far the best quote i have had is from World Nomad for $285, can anyone reccomend a better site? I'm not travelling to the U.S or Canada, which sometimes makes a difference, only India.

"UK resident" is quite a vague term. The tax office have their own definition but, as you know, the dictionary definition is just someone who lives in the UK. In your shoes, I would first check to see what you can get from Japanese web sites then I would consider looking for a definition of "UK resident" on the UK insurance web sites and, if none is found, use the dictionary definition.

Re: Non UK resident travel insurance

Many insurers consider a UK resident to be a person who has resided in the UK for at least 6 months and are registered with a UK doctor. It may be difficult to get details of medical history if they have not registered with a UK doctor and there may also be an issue with the treatment available under the NHS if insurers repatriate the person to the UK.

As you have already been here almost 6 months by the time you travel companies may be willing to agree to this as long as you are registered with a UK doctor and on the understanding that you are will continue to be a UK resident at the end of your trip.

    Hope this helps.
