all i want is a pac code

i have been a contract user with the carphone warehouse for a number of years but now wish to break ties.

    giving 30 days notice

    1) 13/5 sent letter giving notice - never recieved

    2) 23/5 sent letter by recorded - never recieved

    3) 31/5 neither letter recieved

    4) by virtue of time, contract now expired. they have accepted this as i passed recorded letter id no.

    5) 7/6 requested pac code told 24 to 78 hrs

    6) 11/6 still no code

    7) 12/6 still no code

i feel now that i am being forced to still use their service although out of contract, which surely is illegal practice.

advice please as this is really starting to smack of foul play and ignorance.

Re: all i want is a pac code

I have no idea what you are doing Mat. CPW are not the people you need to ask, nor are they the people you should be cancelling a contract with. Who is your network provider? You sign a contract with CPW where they provide you with a phone and a contract with ???, in return you may have got cashback or tv or ipod nano etc. As soon as the free gift is recieved by the consumer, they are effectively out of the loop as long as you stick for the duration. You deal with the network for 99% of your queries i.e. if you have a problem with the bill, who do you phone? When you are in your final month your network, along with others will contact you trying to get you to sign up to a new (improved) contract. CPW will not phone you (in my knowledge) about renewing or indeed to start a contract.

Contact your network and see if they have accepted that your contract has been cancelled - in my experience with CPW, they won't have done a thing. If you still have a contract running, ask for the procedure and addresses - they said I could do it over the phone at first, although a letter is standard practice in the main. When you have filed your cancellation and it has been accepted - always use recorded delivery - ask for your PAC code - I got mine over the phone and a letter confirming it was sent and received within 3 working days. It's really that simple.

CPW are a pain in the industry' backside. They make you believe they care but realistically do little after the contract is signed apart from cause numerous problems - see the many threads on here for proof. Use networks directly, cut out the middle man.

Re: all i want is a pac code

after a while on the phone and speaking to SIX different people at cpw i found out the problem.

the date i was given for contract end, by one of their "educated and informed" staff was wrong, and in fact i had two month left to run.

as i had already got my simplicity 15 sim card direct from o2, a far better deal than i was on with cpw, i bought myself out of the contract and recieved a pac code via text two hours later.

a quick call to o2 to transfer my number and jobs done.

i personnaly will not go with cpw again, left hand right hand and definate lack of interest in customer relations.

like you say "cut out the middle man."

    thanks for the reply kappo

Re: all i want is a pac code

Well its not really the carphone warehouse's fault! Like kappo said, the mobile phone contract you signed was an agreement with your network provider O2 and not with carephone warehouse.

The carphonephone warehouse staff probably got a bit fed up with you asking for something that they dont actually provide or have anything to do with. Despite that, they should have helped you a bit better by pointing you in the right direction.

Re: all i want is a pac code

Bit harsh on the OP guys. CPW does have a relationship with O2 and it's entirely possible that the OP is correct in going to them for a PAC. The O2 number here is who to phone for a PAC via CPW/O2.

Re: all i want is a pac code

In fairness CPW do deal with some of their own accounts they have a big call centre in warrington so they're the guys that issue pacs for customers, they provide the customer service etc the network simply provide the network for these accounts.
I would like to live in a world were chickens can cross the road without being questioned.
