Hello to all. Now this is a good way for young drivers to get good quotes!
Now as many people know, if your young its expensive! Driving any car if your are under 21, or even under 25 can be expensive to start with. Its just a fact of life! However, with the right moves made, correct cars bought and fairly average mileage made you can make some good saves.
Now I have looked at various cars, not because I want to buy them but because they are the cheapest to insure. The main reason why people have difficulty insuring their first car is because they buy the wrong one! Now I have only been looking at insurance quotes today and yesterday because I'm moving out and need my own insurace on my mini (see

for my last entry on the last young drivers thing)
The fact is if you want insurance on any car which has an engine thats over 1 litre or 1000cc its gonna cost you alot. I drive a mini and its got a 998cc engine. on my own insurance with AA which may start in June, it will cost a mere 650 a year, and thats fully comp, European cover, breakdown and courtesy car.
Or a mini with a 1.3 litre engine, fully comp will be 875 per year. but with endsleigh instead of The AA.
However i would like to point out this is with one years no claims and driving for 1 year, also this is with it parked on a driveway, with no alarm or security device, open to the elements, and with only the one driver, job as a student, not a homeowner, and with an excess of 500 pounds)
Now i know mini's aren't quite everyones cup of tea, as you can tell I'm a fanatic, i mean even being 6ft 4 doesn't stop me driving one everyday.
I also looked at peugeot 106's and ENDSLEIGH came up with a same fully comprehensive price of 770 per year. Thats with a 1992 J reg out on the drive/street and clocks 10000 miles a year.
I then looked at a 1 litre citroen saxo 1998, same set up as before and came to 845 pounds per year, on an older saxo which came out at 885 pounds but that was for a 1.1 litre engine.
Finally I looked at the lovely and somewhat grotty at times ford fiesta, in 3 groups, newish, medium ish and really old school!
newish- 1.2 litre 3 door 2000 fiesta, cost 1200. already the over the 1 litre part can show very clearly the difference it can make....
mediumish,1 litre 1990 3 door fiesta, cost 800, showing its a hell of alot cheaper.
old school, 1 litre 1980 3 door fiesta cost 596 pounds!!!! SERIOUSLY CHEAP!!!
So point proven, the older car with the smaller engine is cheaper, and so proving if you are a student wanting a cheap insurance quote, get a small engine and an old banger, as its far cheaper, and the tax is tiny too, or if its pre 1976 its no tax at all!!!!!!
BIG AL, little mini.
