Buildings and contents cover while away from the home for long periods on business

My husband and I are due to be away on business for 5 months and this will leave our home unoccupied during this time. We will be alarmed and the neighbour will be keeping an eye on the place. Our son and daughter will also be popping in from time to time to check everything. Are there any insurers who will give us cover as it's more than 60 days? Any solutions to the problem?

    Many thanks

    Hi Piggybank,

There was another similar question asked and answered recently (see link): http://www.moneysupermarket.com/COMMUNITY/forums/t/home-insurance-for-executor-21733.aspx

Give those companies a try (in the linked thread). The fact that your son and daughter will be checking on the property would have probably helped you if you had a standard policy that excludes unoccupancy and had to make a claim, but this is messy. Unfortunately most insurers will point blankly refuse cover from the outset.
