Help need with Lowell's and settlement letter/credit report amendments

I stupidly never did any research on this company until now and after I have settelled a Lloyds TSB overdraft from 2003. Although Lowell's and a numerous number of there alias company harassed me for payment I gave up and decided to pay because I wanted to get a mortgage to purchase a flat.

I made contact via telephone (stupidly) and told them to make a settled offer, which they did half the amount of the original debt. I settled this amount over the phone via a debt card.

I am still awaiting a settlement letter from Lowell's, however they still seem to be sending me letters agreeing the to the settlement offer. The debt was paid over a month ago.

How or what steps should I take so I get a settlement letter from them and also so they amend my credit report.

    Many thanks in advance..

Hi -- If you have the letter of agreement to the settlement offer, keep that as proof that they were willing to settle for the figure mentioned.

The proof of the payment made to them from your debit card which will show on your bank statement as your proof that payment has actually been made combined with the letter should suffice as proof that the debt has been settled.

As to the credit report send off for a copy and check that the debt is now recorded as settled, if not send the credit agency your proof that it has been settled, asking them to amend the incorrect information held about you.

Thanks for the reply conmankiller, I also recorded the conversation. Have sent of for a copy of my credit report now, which will hopefully arrive in a day or two. If I don't recieve a settlement letter from them by then, I will contact the credit agency myself and follow the advise given above.

I also have another debt for a small amount just over £500. How shall I go about this account with them?

Hi syd --- If you've got a recording of the conversation that's great as a permanent extra record of what was verbally agreed, in case it's needed...nice move.

The other debt will have a different reference number... write recorded to them enclosing it, asking what they will accept in full & final settlement for that seperate debt. Once you have the reply letter from them, keep it for your records and make the payment if you're happy with the amount offered, if not start negotiating to get it further reduced but contact it is better in writing.
