    Tenants House Contents Insurance

I have been paying for Tenants House Contents Insurance through my local council for several years as has a neighbour of mine. Over the past few months we have become disillusioned with our policies as on the only occasion I have requested a claim form, I was informed the item that had been damaged was not covered and my neighbour has been told the same. When asked what exactly IS covered, we were both told they did not know!

I took out this insurance initially as I do not have a bank account that can be used for Direct Debits and I am a single parent on benefits at present so needed to be able to pay weekly. Are there any other insurance companies that allow people to pay weekly (ie at the Post Office), do not require a direct debit payment, and will cover for accidental damage as well as theft or fire?

I feel this is another case of the people who are the most vulnerable in our society being given the lowest service for a higher price, as is the case with pre-payment electric and gas meters!

    Can anyone advise please?

surely you should have received a policy stating what is and what is not covered ?

Yes, but every year they send yet another amendment with even more things that are not covered! Ideally, I would prefer an alternative. Whatever happened to choice? People in my situation can either take out this contenets insurance or not have any at all! As I asked in my original post, I would like to know if anyone can tell me of an insurance company that does not require people to have a bank account or credit card!

    Thanks
