I made a subsidence claim for my garage 9 years ago. It was a small claim as subsidence claims go-£9500. The remedial work was minimal. A hole about 45cms diameter & 60cms deep was dug adjacent to the garage and filled with concrete. The garage is of concrete slab construction on a concrete floor with no footings. Soil tests were done to a depth of 3 metres and the problem was found to be roots from the neighbours conifers. A full check was done of the drains using a camera and everything was ok.
My premium has gone up, this year, by over £40 and I decided to 'phone around. Unfortunately, the few I 'phoned wouldn't even consider a quote. The house, built in 1935, has never had problems. There has been no subsidence in the locality as far as I'm aware in the past 20 years that I have been living here. Why is it that insurers do not consider every case individually and how best do I deal with this problem?
