car insurance with NCD offered for new customers?

Hi, the past few years i have been a named driver on someone elses policy, and so i have zero NCD. Back in the early 1990's I remember the insurance companies offering full NCD to new policy holders, even if they had zero NCD.

I havent seen anything like this on offer now. Do any insurance companies offer this, and if so which ones?

I think that Direct Line still do this, but only if you were a named driver on a previous policy with Direct Line - may be worth checking with them though.

some companys other than direct line will offer named drivers ncd but the general rule of thumb is its got to have been earned under their policy not elsewhere, some companys will give intro discount based on your driving expo, you best bet is to do a full and frank shop around!!

Thinking back, I remember seeing this on Quinn Directs question set as well. As its a question they probably accept whatever you say as long as it can be backed up with documentation. I know there are specific schemes for this kind of business so someone will give you a good price.

Best thing though is as Red Army suggested, do a full search on the main comparison sites and some specific insurers too.

Re: car insurance with NCD offered for new customers?

thanks for the replies. i have tried to get a quote from comparethemarket.com and moneysupermarket.com, and the cheapest quote i ever get is like £1200 going up to £4000, yet when i go online to the insurance company direct ( ie i went to direct line ) the quote drops to £600, so sometimes I do wonder about these compare sites.

    you aint the only one!!

the fsa are supposed to be making a raft of recomendations about the way price comparison sites such as this one operate, they did a audit of about 15 sites(assuming msm was one of them although not too sure) and found various concerns like price quotation problems, full details of policy not displayed properly etc,the fsa did say comparison sites focused to much on the price of a quote not the quality of the quote,

I hope money supermarket take note of the recent recomendations and act on them if not already

Kunash, did you try any other insurers or brokers directly? Direct line are not on aggregators as they say in their marketing. It would be interesting to know a comparitive price from someone like Endsleigh.

Endsleigh did recognise a honda jazz and quoted £650, while DL was about £300, but it couldnt find the other car I was trying to get a quote for ( audi a5 coupe )
