Re: What Prepaid Debit Card do you have and would you recomend it

    Hi

I got a pre-paid debit card from NDCS Charity Champions, great to use or so I thought. I loaded £80.00 onto it this week and the money should have been on the following day. The next day I got an e-mail from them stating as I loaded money onto it at a Post Office they are currently experiencing financial difficulties and have no idea when it will be resolved.

I am now £80 down until they sort it and I can't do anything about it. This particular card can be used for abroad and in the UK but I wouldn't recommend loading your money on through the Post Office, it also deducts 20p each time you ise it which goes to the Childrens Deaf society. If you load at a paypoint they charge 3% but if you can wait for the money it is free to go through telephone banking or standing order.

I have heard tuxedo and virgin do a better deal although you have to pay £10 initially to get it, though I am tempted to scrap the idea completely if they don't resolve the error soon.

    Hope this helps

    Clare

    Hi

I went onto the FSA website earlier but I did ring Consumer Direct who advised nothing could be done but to wait. After several phone calls at 80p minute I finally received an e-mail telling me all was resolved. I will be looking to change and thank you for the information, it has been very helpful.

Has you seen the Urelife debit card? no fees, plus a proof of age component that includes a picture of yourself on the card.

Just tried the Urelife card and when you order it there is a fee of £12.95 for 21 and overs. Not sure how much they charge in the other categories.

Are there no prepay cards out there that have no start up fees as well?

Re: What Prepaid Debit Card do you have and would you recomend it

I thought the Urelife card was better overall as it doesn't charge for anything else. There are no monthly management fees and the card last two years - so no cost after the initial fee? I think most cards have start up fees - but I think there are a few that don't charge up front but hammer you along the lifespan of the card. What card would you recommend?

Re: What Prepaid Debit Card do you have and would you recomend it

I've tried two and wouldn't recommend either of them. Like Tartanflyer am looking for the best one, but I take your point about the one off fees and no further charges and think I might give that one a try.

    Cheers

it's not a prepay card but NATIONWIDE have a "flexy" debit card. you open an E saving account on-line then prior to going abroad you transfer money into your flex debit card account you then have access to your money worldwide with no charges...

ronbobby:it's not a prepay card but NATIONWIDE have a "flexy" debit card. you open an E saving account on-line then prior to going abroad you transfer money into your flex debit card account you then have access to your money worldwide with no charges...

here is a copy of ho to get money in and out "How do I pay money in?

All payments to your e-Savings must be from a FlexAccount, Nationwide's current account, via our online Internet Bank service. Your transfer will take place immediately and your accounts updated to show your new balances. If for any reason the transfer is unsuccessful, we will let you know immediately, so that you can correct the details and successfully make your transfer.

The deposit will earn interest from the first full day it is in your e-Savings.

No cheques or cash can be paid in direct to your e-Savings, but they can be paid into your FlexAccount.

How do I take money out?

All withdrawals from your e-Savings must be made to your Nationwide FlexAccount. Just tell us how much you want to transfer through our Internet Banking service.Your transfer will take place immediately and your accounts updated to show your new balances. If for any reason the transfer is unsuccessful, we will let you know immediately, so that you can correct the details and successfully make your transfer.

No cheques can be issued for withdrawals, and cash cannot be withdrawn at Nationwide branches direct from your e-Savings. However, cash and cheque withdrawals can be made via your FlexAccount."

Re: What Prepaid Debit Card do you have and would you recomend it

sorry i did'nt mean to mislead you, i just gave scant details so you could check it out on-line or calling into a branch of nationwide for full details. however, you transfer money in from, (in my case) my halifax branch account into your e saving account, then transfer from e account into flexy account i use my halifax account for most of my banking. once nationwide e account is set up you receive a debit card to take money out of the flexy account from any card cash machine. it sounds complicated but believe me after your first transaction everything becomes clear. i have used this card for 3 years now home and abroad and have saved £££'s....the e account pays a good interest rate, the flex account not so good that is why i only use it when abroad.
