    Flat with downstairs bikeroom

Hi, I'm moving into a new flat and require contents insurance only, however I have an expensive mountian bike (~£1500). We are on the third floor, but will have a communal bike room downstairs, this should be fairly secure as it is behind the locked stairwell door, then the locked bikeroom door and then there are racks I can lock my bike to inside the bikeroom.

Does anybody know of a good insurer who will cover my bike without asking for additional cover like direct line - who insisted I need additional personal possensions outside the home cover, which almost doubled my quote!

    Cheers,

    George

    George,

Whilst you only require contents cover, you can see why insurers are insisting on having all risks cover. You will not be keeping this possession inside your home. For the same reasons that most insurers don't allow contents cover for shared properties, you would be better off opting for the extra all risks cover. In my view, even this isn't a substantial premium whereby most items 'all risks' (rings, watches, phones etc.) are usually on your person and kept in your own property at night. Your cycle won't be.

    Kind Regards,
