Don't know if this is the right forum to discuss this, but we have recently put a deposit on a sofa from scs. We got a good deal and are due to pay the balance in cash in a few weeks time, but I am worried that if we pay before we receive the goods and the company goes into administration we will lose our money( maybe they won't but the market is not looking very good for them at present). I believe the company policy is to pay before you receive anything. Any suggestions. Thanks.

Personally I prefer to pay when I get something, even if this means getting a friend to help lift something in and out of a trailer.

In your situation you will probably lose the deposit if you back out of the deal but if you pay by credit card and the goods don't arrive, you can ask the credit card company to either reverse the payment or start their dispute process.

I have also paid a deposit on a new sofa from SCS & am waiting for it to arrive. Unfortunately I can't suggest anything but like you am very reluctant to hand over anymore money until I see the goods in my sitting room. My husband suggesteed contacting Trading Standards to see if they could help but I'm pretty sure that they will say we signed an agreement therefore tough cheddar. Unfortunately if the company does go belly up & we have paid the balance the law doesn't protect the consumer at all. I have read various things on the web which lead me to suspect I would have been better to have gone somewhere else other than SCS. My one hope is that I intend to pay for the items with my credit card & understand that gives me a certain amount of guarantee. Best of luck- I hope everything goes through satisfactorily

Well,I have some good news re my sofa. I paid the remainder of the bill by c/c on Monday & it arrived today at 8.30 this morning. I hope this makes you feel a little bit more comfortable about purchasing from SCS. Best of luck with your order!
