The day that BP and Shell announced billion pound profits has done nothing to quell the rising anger felt by the UK's beleaguered motorists.

Whilst the news is unwelcome, the truth is that the petrol and diesel costs felt at the pumps are little to do with BP, Shell et al, but are all to do with the Chancellor of the Exchequer. The bottom line is that the motorist is an easy target and a captive audience.

The UK has one of the highest costs for cars and lorries in the world yet most of the litre cost is taxation to the government.

This SHARK has had enough. It is not enough for the hauliers to come out in action, everyone should do it. If the whole of the UK went on strike and stayed at home just for one day, it would be the first since the National Strike and would bring it home to the liars and cheats at Westminster that the UK population will not take any more.

I vote for a United Kingdom day of action against the taxation and financial mismanagement that Gordon Brown and his party have brought on all of us.

Ouch - someone’s getting really teed off with all of this, aren’t they !

I offer an alternative to a national strike. Strikes haven’t worked in the past and won’t do again. I’ve noticed that workers don’t seem to use the other method of expressing their frustrations much these days – a work to rule.

Let’s not propose a national strike. Let’s have a national campaign of “Civil obedience” instead.

We all behave exactly as the government keeps telling us we should. Some simple examples of how it would work, over say a number of preselected days, or perhaps a selected week.

a) No-one exceeds a speed limit anywhere. Impact 1 = lower petrol consumption = significant loss of petroleum taxes to HMG. Impact 2 = no speeding fines = road safety camera partnerships go bust because of sudden loss of cash flow.

b) Where possible, everyone attempts to get to work by bus or train. Impact 1 = utter chaos. Impact 2 = dramatic loss of car parking revenue to local authorities and to HMG via petroleum taxes.

c) Everybody stops smoking and / or drinking alcohol. Impact = another massive loss of revenue to HMG.

d) Everybody recycles all their waste as requested. Impact = local authorities can’t cope with the collection and disposal of recycled waste.

You get the general idea. And all we’d be doing as a nation is what the government keeps telling us we should do. Anyone got any more suggestions ????
