    thames credit help please

    Hi,

    wonder if anyone can help i have recived a letter from thames credit asking for money that i owe to ge money bank i have no ide what this is for do i contact them to see what its for and if i do this will it mean im admitting to the debt?

    Yes. Write them a letter stating that you do not know what the amount is regarding and you cannot take any further action without knowing full details of the debt. You can ask for a copy of the agreement that they believe led to the debt.

    Keep a copy of all correspondence and, if you don't get a reply, send the letter by recorded delivery next time. You must reply to the correspondence. Once you know more details, you can consider other options. If you get no further correspondence after sending a letter, you can forget about the matter.

    Does this mean im admitting to the debt though? If it is mine why has i took them so long to get in touch as i havent had any debt since i was 18/19 and im now 27?? and as far as im aware its all paid.

    No. You are either just asking what it's about or denying there's anything owed. It might be best to do the latter or to say something like "as far as I am aware, there is nothing outstanding". Not replying is more likely to cause problems than a sensible reply.

    thanks for the advice.

    Just one other question, i live in scotland are they not time barred now? If so what do i do?

    If the debt is yours and you've not received or sent any communication or payment in the last 5 years, then it will indeed be time barred. In my view, you should try to find out more information before using this.
