I managed to change tariffs from Sign Online 4 to SOL 10 by telephone a couple of weeks ago; after a great deal of trouble with npower having tried to vastly overcharge me (by 432 kwh) when my electricity meter was changed I too was going to change suppliers and found their cheaper tariff through price comparison sites. They were not going to let me do this until I made a written complaint and threatened to change suppliers. Very helpful staff, but standard replies by post following just about every phone call are very inaccurate and you just have to keep phoning or emailing them. You need to keep a good eye on your meter readings and calculate what you should be spending, as they always overestimate. When I changed tariff, I was astonished to get a letter saying I'd cancelled my direct debits and was going to pay whole bills! Apparently, this is another standard letter. I will have missed one DD payment due to need to reinstate payments - they didn't mention anything about having to cancel and reinstate them.Worried that it might affect my DD discount, have been assured it won't, but discount due April 6 still not on my bill and now been told this won't appear until July! I am going to challenge that with another complaint. My message is - you can get the SOL 10 tariff, but wonder if the hassle with this company is really worth it and am seriously considering changing supplier, not to B. Gas though, but to one with better customer care..
