Double Electric use after underfloor heating

We used to use about 1880 kwh per quarter. We had our kitchen/dining room knocked through around December and both rooms and the Hall got underfloor heating. This is on about 5 hours a day and our quaterly usage this time was 3890 kwh!!

We have monitored the last 2 days and useage is about 33kwh per day.

Is this normal with underfloor heating or do things seem excesive??

    Many thanks

    Mark

    Hi there,

Do you still have the instruction manual? It will probably tell you on there in the specification bit about how much wattage it usues. If no check the manufacturer website?

Re: Double Electric use after underfloor heating

HI, I just thought I would give you my views.

I live on my own and have my bathroom heated by electric underfloor heating (devimat)

The bathroom measures 2.5metres by 3, so quite small.

Had the floor fitted Nov 2007, first bill for nov 2007 to-jan 2008 was £113

Second bill Jan 08 to April ahd just come in at £130. Electricity bills for me are usually about £50-60 per quarter so I would say yes underfloor heating costs!!!

I had the floor coming on at 5-30am to 9am and eve from 5-30 to 11pm on about 30degrees. Have now considerably turned down the length for which it is on, and the temp.

Re: Double Electric use after underfloor heating

Yes, it is certainly the under floor heating. We checked the readings every day and it was about 30 a day. We then turned the heating right down so it doesn't come on and we are back down to 10-12.

Suppose we'll just have to be more careful but can certainly reduce the time it is on come next winter now we know!

    Thanks all!

What kinda reptilian sybarite* heats their _bathroom_ to 30 degrees for nine hours a day? It's a free world and folks can spends their hard-earned-moneys hows they pleases, but, really! Outraged harrumph. It just sounds so uncomfortable and stifling and icky.

    * I mean that in a nice way.

Re: Double Electric use after underfloor heating

As my bathroom is an extension on the ground floor, with three outside walls, and a flat roof, it is extremely cold in the winter months. In fact I measured the room at 7.5 degrees one morning. It got to the extent that I was so cold I didn't want to take my clothes off to have a shower/bath! And as my father is an electrician when I had the bathroom re fitted we put the floor in. Oh and as for the 30degrees my settings work from 1 -10 and not by degrees, so I had it set to 6, only to be told by father that each unit represented 5 degrees. As for the reptilian comment- I think I could be growing scales pretty shortly as even when Im in the chiller departments at Waitrose my fingers turn white! Reynaulds syndrome is what they call it.

    Statts,

Joining this one late on but certainly it would appear the underfloor heating is resulting in excessive energy bills.

Best thing to do is keep it controlled and don't have it on when it's not necessary.
