    SWITCHING TO 02

    Hi,

Can anyone advise me of the reason new ISP providers such as O2 have such limited availability? I am a current O2 mobile user and that experience leads me to want to switch to their broadband service, not to mention how cheap it's being offered at. On enquiring I was told it wasn't available in my area - with no forecast of when that's likely to be. Like others, I am always looking for a good deal and I thought I'd found it; how disappointed I was at finding out I wasn't going to be able to switch from my current expensive provider! If anyone works for O2 and can let me know when it's likely that West Wilts will be 'on line' I'd be very greatful. I note, too, that Aberdeen isn't 'on line' either so couldn't work out who O2 are actually providing the service to? Perhaps others are using this service and would like to offer comment on it?

    Re: SWITCHING TO 02

    Hello DH

O2 are using a company called "Be there" to provide their service, like most LLU providers they are putting equipment in areas which have high populations to ensure they get a good return. It costs a supplier nearly 30k per exchange the n they have to buy line in groups. So due to these costs unless there is great demand for their services (hence why they ask you to register to let you know when it is available) they just won't be available right away.

    Hope this helps?

    Michael.

Thank you for this enlightening and expeditious response. I now understand better why they have told me that they can't say when they will be on-line in this area - albeit they tell me their target is for 80% UK wide coverage by the end of the year. Personally, I hope it's soon as my expereince of their mobile service is top rate. Again, my thanks.
