    Mobile Broadband

We live in a very rural spot with poor overhead phone lines., connection always lost on broadband in windy weather. Currently with AOL but we now can hardly ever get on line. BT says line is ok but a friend who is a BT engineer says its not. Would a mobile broadband work without a BT line? Can anyone advise me please? That way I could bin off AOL and BT and get a mobile broadband package. I currently have an orange contract mobile phone. I find it all a bit confusing. Thanks to anyone who could advise.

    Re: Mobile Broadband

If you have a good mobile phone signal inside the house, mobile broadband will work. A phone line is not needed for mobile BBand. But make sure the signal is the same provider as the BBand you get.

Just to add its not the mobile phone signal that you should check but the companies HSDPA signal. This is the "super quick" reception you need from the local transmitter to make the broadband "quick". Not all transmitters are upgraded yet. My advice would be to check your postcode on the companies website (3, Tmobile etc) and if you need help head into one of the companies stores.

I have a datacard with "3" and find the reception nationwide very good. In fact i get a regular 1meg connection while on the road which is quicker than i can get at home.

I must add that i think mobile broadband is fantastic and enables me to work anywhere in the country as if im at my desk - and its so cheap £10 a month !!

I forgot to mention that the Mobile broadband is a separate contract - it makes no difference who you have your phone with.

Thanks smala, I've learned something from that, mainly not to believe phone salesmen. Perhaps a phone signal would give some indication if you're in a deadspot though. Thanks again BB

    Hi BB,

You are correct - you wont get HSDPA without a standard signal :)
