    Beware of COVERHEAT

    Had boiler cover with them

when our boiler broke down we called COVERHEAT,they said that they wanted us to fax or post them the boiler service record before they can send someone. The boiler was serviced by Homeserve the previous year but we didn t have any paperwork’s for it.They then offer to send someone but they would charge £75 a hour! What is the point of paying £29 every three month if they charge you full price. We refused and use the yellow pages to find someone else and got the boiler repaired the following day.

We looked at the terms and conditions they is no mention that the cover will be void if you cant supply any service record. We cancelled the cover and ask for a refund but they refused the refund. We have contacted Trading Standards.

Hi --- Also complain to the Insurance Ombudsman at the FOS below, they can take action on rogue insurance policies which this product is based upon.

    http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/

You need to reclaim any money you have paid to Coverheat, as they have already proved beyond doubt that this policy was never going to be of benefit to yourself.

    Re: Beware of COVERHEAT

I totally agree with the comment. I had a similar experience chasing them for 3 months to get an engineer to look at continuos pressure loss in my system. I am convinced they just have one or people on the phone fobbing you off once they have taken your money and warning you if they cant find the fault or its just the case of adding pressure, they will charge me. Then they make promises that an engineer will call and they never do. When u chase them they claim the number u gave them was wrong ( that old chestnut ). Then they claim I needed to send them the service record..aha..... THEY did the last service 9 months earlier and approved the policy on that basis !! Now, one month into the annual renewal, they still haven't come to do the annual inspection or attended to my pressure issue, and refuse to give me my money back. I shall be reporting them to the trading standards, and anyone else I can.. Stay well clear.

    Conmankiller,

This article refers to two providers. Can you confirm whether it is about HomeServe or CoverHeat.

    Hi Scott........ COVERHEAT

when our boiler broke down we called COVERHEAT,they said that they wanted us to fax or post them the boiler service record before they can send someone. The boiler was serviced by Homeserve the previous year but we didn t have any paperwork’s for it.

Going on the quote above from original post, I take it to mean they have Coverheat as their provider at the moment, but the cover used to be through Homeserve at some time in the past, which meant Coverheat wanted to see the old boiler service report from Homeserve. ?

Also didn't help having a typo error in my reply......corrected now.

    Re: Beware of COVERHEAT

Just taken out a policy with coverheat, wish I hadn't.Paid first installment, £39.99 on 2/4/08,appt made for initial inspection sometime 11/4/08,waited in all day, rang them about 4pm said engineer would ring me. No one did.Waited until 15/4/08 still no contact or explanation, decided to cancel my policy, expected a refund minus £15 admin fee, received a letter this morning telling me no refund due because I had made an appointment.Rang "Will"a manager at coverheat who refused to refund my money, told me I could write to the complaints manager.Consumer direct have told me I am entitled to a full refund of £39.99 as coverheat have breached the contract they made with me, I dont hold out much hope of getting anything!

    Re: Beware of COVERHEAT

i've been having big problems with coverheat in regards to their policies and them requiring service records. initially took out the policy requested an engineer to come out to repare a fault to the boiler and then i recieved an invoice?! why i ask? i was told i should have sent my service records before the inspection. i then sent my service records by special delivery and then they told me they havent been sent even though royal mail have confirmed it has been signed and i have proof of signature also. i have written to the FOS and spoken to the trading standards and now i have received another letter from Coverheat telling me that i sent the wrong records. LOL???? i should have sent the records of the the work done by the engineer when he completed the job. this now doesnt make sense as initially they said they requested these records before the work is taken out. this is going against there terms and conditions. they really need to make up there minds.i have refused to make the payment i have cancelled my direct debit with them so they dont take a penny more from me. . i have also spoken to this Will and he is just a joke of a person to be honest i'd like to meet him face to face to tell him what i think about him and his company. so to all prospect customers DO NOT GO WITH COVERHEAT!!!!!

    Re: Beware of COVERHEAT

Having read the threads on this site and having NEVER received an initial inspection, I too paid £39.99 then cancelled the direct debit, wrote to them stating that they had not provided me with the service stated and got a silly letter back saying that they were unable to refund me as I had already made a payment! DER yeah I did cos I thought you were coming to service my boiler!!

Whilst I feel I have lost out, I have sent an email and letter by recorded delivery to the Insurance Ombudsman - and to date I'm still waiting for a reply.

I would recommend that anyone wishing to take out any kind of insurance or loans check this site first so that you don't get ripped off before you even start.

The thing is one company was on a very reputable switching website and Yes Loans is on this website, so I don't know about anyone else but I guess I trust the main website I went through to locate these awful companies that just seem to be conning people left right and centre.

Steer clear of this company and do your research before moving to any other - if it is too good to be true, well then it just is!!

    Re: Beware of COVERHEAT

I have a similar experience with COVERHEAT. However, I had an initial inspection as promised so never suspected anything until the heating system stopped working. An engineer came (13 May) and said a valve needs replaced and since then nothing happens. I cannot speak to anyone as the customer service only passes your contact details to some (possibly non-existent) works department. After two weeks they said they would send an engineer to do the repair but he never arrived or phoned. I paid for the whole year (£150) so after reading this thread I am rather doubtful if I ever receive a refund or get the valve replaced.

    Re: Beware of COVERHEAT

Oh Adam, I am so sorry. Aren't these companies rotten! I cannot understand how they get away with it. I got an email from the Financial Ombudsman telling me what I had already done, so it would appear that they are just as incompetent as these companies are.

Stop your direct debit immediately. Whilst it agreives me to do so, I recommend that you telephone British Gas. Once I cancelled with Coverheat I went straight online and got cover with them. I went through a site call Give or Take and they pay you for taking out services, so you will get a bit of cash back from taking out the service if you go through them.

    Good Luck

    Re: Beware of COVERHEAT

    Thanks Topbird,

I'll probably do what you say. I don't have a direct debit as I paid for th whole year using credit card.

    Re: Beware of COVERHEAT

Hi adam20m, like you I took out cover with CoverHeat and paid for the full year. I now have no cover and am £150 out of pocket. They found a fault at my initial inspection, and when i wouldn't pay the price they asked, to do the repair, my policy was cancelled, but they will not refund any of my years payment. They got a local heating engineer to do the quote. I know what that quote was, but when they contacted me they had added £102 to it!!
