Why it pays to shop around

My buildings insurance renewal with Tesco arrived last week, over £360.

I phoned my contents company, CIS, for a combined quote which was over £400.

A trawl through the moneysupermarket quotes gave me several combined figures around £250.

I phoned CIS - who are a good company I've been with for years - but they wouldn't drop their price.

I phoned Tesco who promptly offered me a combined policy for £254.

So by telling Tesco I had a better quote they immediately dropped their renewal premium by over £100 - and added a £30K contents policy for free.

As they had settled a fire claim promptly a few years ago, I decided to stick with Tesco this time.

But never again will I accept a renewal premium without checking other companies. Tesco obviously display no loyalty towards existing customers, so why should we?

the reaility is no insurance company rewards customer loyalty, some stick with them for years as the premiums start to fall as ncd increases, but yet miss out because other insurers become more competitive with the more ncd you have.
