Buying Road Tax on Used Vehicle

I bought a car recently and the car did not have any road tax and I insited that as part of the deal that the car be taxed. Because the car was not insured , the car had to be insured in the sellers company address to get the Road tax from the post office. So when completing the V5 document the New Keepers details which are to be sent to the DVLA are in my name but the part of the V5 that I have kept show the car company that I bought the car from details. I have an Invoice and paid by bankers draft so the bank should have details of this, and I do have possision of the car. I am just worried that the part of the registration document that I have does not show my details. Is this process normal?

Would be grateful for your feedback.

    Thanks

If you have a V5 with the old owner's details, you can send it to DVLA to get things changed to your details. If you didn't have the V5, you could still apply for one although I believe that there is now a charge for this.

Another time, rather than insisting that the vehicle is taxed, it would be a lot easier for everyone if you just ask for a couple of hundred pounds to be knocked off the price.
