    House Removals

I'm not sure if this is the right place to vent my current anger about sharp practice in this industry, but the way I feel at the moment, I'll sound off to anyone. Did you know that Pickfords Removals operates like Ryanair and other travel companies? The nearer to the date of your move you get, the more they charge.
We got an advance quote from them in October for various removal services amounting to £2400. This was about £150 more than the cheapest alternative but we mentally decided to go with them once dates of our move were finally settled (based on reputation, extra services, etc) Now the parties have agreed the week of the move for late November, but we find the quote is over its 30 day limit and therefore a new one is required. This one comes in at £3200; £803 extra to be precise. Apparently this is due to differnt pricing bands for different months/seasons. No mention is made of that in the litertature. "It is like flying, Sir", I was told.
They say moving house is stressful, don't they? I think we have found one of the original companies which quoted will still honour theirs, so Pickfords can whistle for the business, but I could have done without the hassle right now.

    Re: House Removals

Do it yourself - 90% of people moving do.

It may be less stressful and definitely cheaper.

You can rent plastic crates from a company called Rentacrate that either deliver or you can pick up from them.

Their crate pack options are really good value and better than cardboard boxes removal companies use.

    You can order on-line too - www.rentacrate.co.uk/domestic/
