Who can tell me what kind of Printer is great value for money?

I like Digital Photography, and I have many photos on my computer.

Recently,I want to print these photos ,but it’s not convenient for me to go the print shop.

So,I really want to buy a Photosmart so that I can print those photos at any moment.

Who can tell me what kind of Printer is great value for money?

What you are looking for is a Photo Printer.

There are three that offer great quality but it depends if you want to be able to print on A4, A3 or standard 6 x 4 prints. I would go for one of the Canon Pixma range or the Epson Photo printers. If you only want a 6 x 4 printer, check out the Samsung or the Canon dyeline range.

Ordinary A4 printers go for around the £100 mark as do the 6 x 4s, anything larger costs around the £300 mark.

    SHARK!

They're good, but make sure you get one with individual colour cartridges and not one with colour and black only.

Re: Who can tell me what kind of Printer is great value for money?

    Hi

I can't say which is best but I based my decision on the cost of ink and what type of paper the printer took. I ended up buying a larger computer printer which also linked to cameras as I felt the colour and quality of prints were better.

I made the mistake of basing my costs on generic ink cartridges which were cheaper than the originals. These were fine for printing stuff from the PC but not as good as the original manufacturers cartridges for photo printing.

The main concern is the cost of printing a photo versus quality and I agree with Landshark, "make sure you get one with individual colour cartridges and not one with colour and black only" as you have to replace all the colours if one runs out on a 2 cartridge system. My niece has a 2 cartridge system and it's wasteful and costly.

Lots of websites show a 'cost per photo' guide with photo printers designed for cameras. Bear in mind, if you ever want to print big A4 pictures you would be better with a PC printer rather than a 6"x4" dedicated mini printer.

A final point - I bought a Lexmark printer in the past because it was cheap. The quality was excellent but the cost of ink was unbelievable and it ate ink quickly. I hadn't really thought about the purchase long term. I replaced it with an Epson Photo Printer which was 3x the cost to buy but less than a 1/4 of the cost to run. It's worth doing your purchase based on ink costs rather than the initial cost of the printer.

    Hi,

I have a Cannon ip4300 (about £60.00 from Argos) and I find the photo quality on it is really good. It's quick and has some great features that other, more expensive printers don't (paper cartridge, quiet mode, 2-sided printing), and the ink cartridges are in seperate colours and are well-priced. I would say with Cannon printers to make sure you only buy Cannon Cartridges.

    Good Luck!

I would buy cheap here personally. Unless you're looking for particularly high spec, even the budget offerings from the big brands will be good enough. It's usually cheaper to just replace the printer instead of the ink carts.

Buy a cheap printer, run it until the ink runs out, then buy another one.

Not exactly ecologically sound, but cost effective.

I would'nt do as Roger says as most printers don't come with full catridges they just come with enough to get you started, I believe. My opinion for a decent quality/price printer would be a Epson with 1 black and 5 or 6 seperate colour cartridges, they are good value and best quality. The problem with mixed colour individual catridges is you might run out of a certain colour with the 2 other colours still half full or so, rendering the cartridge useless as well as being very expensive.

The printer is the cheap stuff; its the colour cartridges that cost!

I buy my cartridges from inkraider dot co dot uk. The last time I bought and ink cartridge (colour or black) must have been two or three years ago.

You can also try truprint dot co dot uk to print your photos for you at a reasonable rate.

    Personaly I'd get a Kodak All In One 5100 or a 5300.

These printers sell around £59.99 and £99.99 but have many good features such as:

    * Inks [Black AND Colour] are just £15.99 for both and last on average 4 times longer than closest "rival" HP

    * Standard 6x4" Lab Quality prints are lab quality and dry to touch in seconds in comparison to again HP who reconmend 5-7 days before touching.

*5300 has a colour LCD Display with card slots

    *Has a nice scanner :)
