Has anyone got any tips on how to grocery shop?  This may seem an odd question but with money being tight at the mo i would really be glad of any tips and advice on buying groceries.

Can I ask, are you a student or "normal" like the rest of us?

Are you buying for just yourself or others as well?

I would consider my self as "normal" (whatever normal may be) and I share a house with my partner and his mother (they both love food)

I am also trying to save money on my weekly shopping, and have been going shopping at Aldi's supermarket, which is so much cheaper, most of the food is not named braned food but honeslty it is fine. The only thing i don't buy is bakes beans as they have to be heinz. Cleaning materials are just as good as named brand adn half the cost. I am now saving £70 per WEEK on shopping.

Tip to go shopping at Aldi, take a shopping list and do not be tempted by all the other bargain products they do which are NOT food.

Hi - A little tip from me for saving a bit of money; I now do all my shopping online at tesco. Once you have used it once and get the hang of it (especially the express shopper where you can type in your whole list and not be tempted by offers) it is dead easy. I used to love going to the supermarket but now if I have to do it that way I hate it and spend loads more. I think the thing is, when you walk round a supermarket its the "justs" that cost in the end. "I'll just get this that and the other offer..." I know you have to pay for delivery but truly that is nothing compared to what you save not "just looking" at other stuff you don't need but end up buying anyway! Hope thats helpful to someone... claire (PS I do buy all my meat from thelocal butchers now which saves a fortune believe it or not and is so much more tasty)

I also agree with online shopping. You can browse exactly as you would in the supermarket but choose the things you NEED rather than just want. The total cost is added up as you add things to your basket so it's easier to stay within budget, and there are always discount codes available on the internet for free delivery and £10 off when you spend over £50, etc. The first time takes a while to get used to but all the items are stored on your account so it is much quicker the next time. Plus you can do it in the comfort of your own home no risk of being rammed with a trolley!!

I agree online shopping is great. I used to do it all the time for my son at Uni. Nothing better shopping whilst having a glass of wine and not having to worry about driving under the influence, mind you shopping under the influence is hazardous to your purse at times.!!

Not so great for me at home as no supermarkets do online shopping and delivery around where I live. The joys of living in the back of beyond.
